I'm not the biggest comedy fan, but I've lately been trying some new comedies, and with some, I've been delightfully surprised. Some, not so much. I really dislike both Will Ferrell, and John C. Reily. It looked good by the trailer, and I ALMOST saw this in theaters, but didn't due to the "drum scene" and the fact that I wasn't hearing a million rave reviews. Plus I heard it was sorta crude too... Then it hit DVD, time went on, and I kinda forgot about it. But one day, I rented it. It was a lot better than I thought, and besides the "drum scene" it wasn't too crude, but what there was, was pretty offensive. But overall, not too bad.

I really like the story. It's about 2 people who were married at one time, and had kids. They get married, and their 2 kids become Step Brothers... But they're 40 years old! At first they hate each other, and beat each other up. But soon, they become best buddies. Sounds really funny, which it is, but I think it could have been funnier.

Like I said, I really don't like either Will Ferrell, or John C. Reily. Ferrell screams too much, and tries too hard to be funny, and Reily is just a dork. But when put together, they are bearable. Funny, huh? 2 of the ugliest, and most disliked actors (to me) joined together, actually make it work! Anyhow, they aren't perfect, and since I don't really like them, I think the film might have done better with different actors. Who? I don't know.

Adam McKay is the director. He did ok. I like how he didn't focus on the crudeness. They say their gay sentence, and that's that. Though what the hell was with showing certain things in the "drum scene" even though it looks fake? The director isn't a famous guy, and he doesn't deserve to be, but he's not bad, but nothing special.

Overall, this was a slightly above average film, that I'd give a slight recommendation to. Not hilarious, but funny.

Look for a small role by Seth Rogen at the job interviews!!!

FINALLY! I was waiting for you to see this one. I wasn't excited to see this either, but then my parents bought and I thought, "What the heck?" So I popped it in and I loved it. Great review by the way.

    Thanks, everyone!

and that's weird... this bookm I had did not mention Talladega Nights, or Anchorman. But I double-checked, and you're right! Oh, well, it's a mess up. But Talladega Nights sucked, and Anchorman looked bad lol

Good review, I agree with Ed Wood, but in a way, the director is sorta famous, cause he directed the cult faves Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgendy, and Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby. The latter is my favorite Will Ferrell movie.
