In Star Wars: Episode I, Darth Vader is a hopeful nine-year-old boy named Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi is a brash young Jedi Knight. The first chapter of the Star Wars saga follows Anakin's journey as he pursues his dreams and confronts his deepest fears in the midst of a galaxy in turmoil.

Totally screwed up the greatness of the Star Wars saga.

@ghostman I'd be excited for those IF I knew Lucas was actually going to make these conversions worth-while.

@SpaceCowboy That's the reason why I held off buying the blu-ray set, As much of a die-hard fan I am, I resist to buy the blu-rays after I heard about the terrible sound quality of Ep. I-II (which there wasn't any sound problems in theater) and how the OT movies were changed again; but the fact that all those bonus features are so tempting for me to get it; I must stick with my Original trilogy box set from 2008 which you can't find in stores anymore (or they're either over a hundred dollars on Amazon) and we all know that their is going to be a 3D blu-ray release for Star Wars' 40th anniversary in 2017.

@narrator @ROFLitschristian The one movies i'm looking forward to seeing in 3D are Revenge of the Sith, (opening battle scene and the Mustafar duel) The Empire Strikes Back (Battle of Hoth in 3D!) and as much as i don't like ROTJ I can't wait to see those Speeder Bikes racing at me in 3D!

@SpaceCowboy, I've heard similar things from Star Wars: Blu-Ray owners. Bummer that he changed so much, and removed some of the things that made the series so potent. Like the Greedo shoots first bullsh*t.

@narrator The thing about Star Wars on Blu-ray is that it has loads of extras, in sight you might already know of if your a Star Wars fanatic, but now this information is in video form. The quality is superb as expected, but the one downside is not the edits exclusive to the Blu-ray (rough messes, but tolerable and practically treasure to behold if you lighten your frustration), it is the restoration of the wrong films. I mean the old theatrical cuts of the original trilogy with the fuzzy effects by today's standards. On Blu-ray, the dated mentality may not look so well, but it's still worth a transfer. As a collector and Star Wars enthusiast the Blu-ray is worth the purchase but doesn't have all the meat it needs. I cannot and will not allow myself to dispose of my DVDs. I must hoard the original trilogy as it was shown in the cinemas. Lucas didn't help preserve the franchise. He rewrote its history.

    Sorry. Felt like ranting :P

@narrator I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. We were all so psyched for the big battle between Obi Wan, Qui Gon, and Maul. Not a single thing popped out. If this is the route their taking it, then there's no hope.

  9. The Narrator: The Better Man

@SpaceCowboy, yeah. But it'll give the 3D time to develop and hopefully the converters will improve upon the feedback off of this film. Until then, there's always blu-ray (which I still haven't f*cking bought yet). Tsk tsk.

@ghostman But thank goodness no unnecessary edits were made to Empire. It'll be worth the wait. You'll see. Even if the 3D is horrible just to have the movie on the big screen again is a godsend.

If anything @ROFLitschristian, @ghostman, @SpaceCowboy, I'll wait 'till Revenge of the Sith. The battle of Mustafar will kick-ass in 3D by the time the conversions done, guaranteed.

@ghostman Gotta disagree, a lot. What @SpaceCowboy's heard is right. SC, at anytime in the film you can take your glasses off and 85% of the screen is still sharp as Blu-Ray. They could've done so much more. It's like my friend Fravel said, "It's great for a nostalgic feel, but the 3D does little to it." They could have done the stars, the confetti, the figgin alien points right at you and NOTHING! Definitely not worth $13 bucks, or staying up till 3 am. Space, save your money. This one gets a D-.

@ghostman I heard the 3D does little for the movie. It's mostly flat. And from what you've seen it sure sounds like the Blu-ray edit of the film is now showing on the big screen. Which, I hate to admit, was one of the better changes Lucas made for the Blu-ray restoration. (Mainly for Yoda. As part of the prequel trilogy he's meant to be CG'd)

Alright everybody, went to see this last night, all showings were sold-out so I had to see the 11pm show after I finished watching The Woman in Black; here's the DL (down-low)

The 3D is fantastically great looking for a 3D conversion, the best scenes in 3D are obviously the Pod Race and the final lightsaber dual with Darth Maul worked perfectly. Seeing CGI Yoda for the first time was a sight for sore eyes (from the terrible puppet Yoda back in 99') and the picture/sound quality was amazing! There are some new footage shown in this 3D re-release, you get a few more b-roll shots of Tattooine and the pod race sequence is 4 minutes longer with several shots added. JarJar Binks dialogue has been shortened, but his presence is still annoying. Overall, much better experience on the big screen and the 3D is worth it. If you want a nostalgic feeling, go see this in theaters....again :)

@moviegeek @corey it's funnier seeing how they list it as a 2012 release that's not even out yet and they still have the original 1999 box office earnings...I wonder if they'll update that after it's released in 3D.

That's because they are re-releasing it to theaters in 3D, even though it came out to theaters back in 1999.
