Although the movie is about two scientists experimenting with gene splicing & creating new life they barely discuss the implications, there are no discussions about medical ethics or scientific restraint. Some other characters mention that what they are doing is controversial but no one really debates the issues. In terms of film-making that turns out to be a wise decision because instead of a lot of talk we get to just follow along as these scientists create their own Frankenstein monster & make one bad decision after another. Any debate is pointless because we see the results of their experiments. The two main scientists never consider the consequence of their actions they just act. The bad decisions the scientists make, result in the movie earning it's R rating with nudity, sexual violence & death.

Their creation grows at an accelerated rate so they get to observe the complete life cycle of their new life form. They don't really think about what they are doing, they just act. Adrien Brody tries to stop but Sarah Polley is driven & disturbed enough to push him beyond his comfort zone. She can switch from nurturing mother figure to emotionless scientist without skipping a beat. They were good performances. The man who played their agent/supervisor was just ok. The CGI was really well done & the creature is incredibly real looking. It's an original movie & you aren't sure what is going to happen next which made the movie that much more involving. The family theme that runs throughout the movie is also integral in making certain scenes in the movie difficult to watch. If you are a Farscape fan you might have trouble with the Frankenstein's monster's name.

It's like a car accident that you can't help but watch.
