Speed Racer: Review By Rufio

Not a kids movie. I know that was the intent of the Matrix Bros., but they apparently have a different idea of "family movie" than I do. The racing scenes are cool for kids, but the language, suggestiveness, inuendos, glamorized violence, etc. simply have no place in kid's movies. In terms of its creativeness and appeal to adults it lacks in many ways... it's very cheesy, most of it's effects actually take away from the movie (Note to film makers: either make a cartoon or a movie, but very few movies succeed in being both - this one included), and the storyline is over-used ("man against the machine/The Man"). The best part about the movie is the little kid and monkey. Emile and Christina also do surprisingly well considering what they had to work with... overall, two stars.
