Species II: Review By The CryptKeeper

****REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILER TO THE FIRST SPECIES****

This movie certainly wasn't too horrible. It wasn't good though. I had seen the first, and third Species (so far) and liked the first, but not the third. The first was good, but the third was awful. Knowing that it was straight to DVD, I had hoped that maybe since this one wasn't, it'd be better... and it was. Like I said it wasn't very good. The movie was slightly boring; that was a main problem. Also the fact that it didn't really do anything with how the first one ended. The first ended with the Species dieing, and then some rat got infected. This one did absolutely nothing with that.

The story isn't very good. In fact, it's yet ANOTHER problem with the film.Some astronauts go to Mars, and get infected with the alien virus. Then, one astronaut becomes a Species type thing, that wants to reproduce. This was a big problem, because it was a male this time, not a female. This type of role just didn't seem right in a male. Plus I prefer a sexy leading lady.

The acting isn't really too bad. I mean, it's nothing to brag about, but it isn't terrible. Though the film did have its moments of bad acting. We have a few returning cast members from the first, like Michael Madsen. Like in the first, he is hired to kill the Species alien thing. Then Natasha Hestrige, who is still a Species, but not exactly. She died in the first, so in this one she's a clone, and she's also half human. She's locked up in a lab for pretty much the entire movie.

The directing isn't too good. He makes it very boring to watch. He needs to put more effort, and action into his film. You can tell he wasn't trying hard enough. It's a different director than the first, and they should have gotten him back for this one... maybe it would have been better.

The visuals are crap. I know it's an older film, but there's no excuse, because the first had better effects than this! It's so cheesy to watch those fake space ships land. It's pretty funny.

Overall, not a lot. I've seen better, I've seen worse. At least it's not as bad as Species 3. I actually bought this before this before I bought this before I saw it I'm not sure yet if I'll keep it or not. Definitely not something I'll be watching again anytime soon.

I just hope the fourth is better.
