Southland Tales: Review By John2347

Southland Tales was a really interesting sci-fi movie that is very intellectually challenging for a viewer. The cast was perfect even the Rock (who I think is on his way to becoming a good actor if he makes more serious movies)was good and made me laugh and JT who only has a few scenes in the movie was really good even as the narrator.First thing is first not every one is going to like this movie I think its a movie for a crowd that likes to be intellectually challenged and like art films. I personally love the movie (not better than Donnie Darko) for that reason and I don't think sci-fi movies have been very good lately there all about money special F/X and big action sequences and to many remakes and not enough of them are as crazy and intellectual as they should be excluding a few like the Fountain,A Scanner Darkly,Children of Men and V for Vendetta. The movie may be a little hard for your average film goer and I myself found it a little hard to understand but after the third watch I was amazed on how challenging it was for me to understand the movie and then realize its actually pretty simple everything is right in front of me and I felt like an idiot. I think a lot of people may hate this movie and also love it at the same time some may like it and never fully understand it and I think a lot of people judging by the reviews will hate it. What I really like about the movie was the fact that it is a political based sci-fi movie that reveals just how divided and just how cruel we are towards each other because of our political beliefs.

Richard Kelly did a great job on setting up a really cool story that fits in with every thing that is going on today he touches on everything from politics,Reality T.V., porn, surveillance, and the war and that is one of the films high points I just felt that more could of been done in the end so I could understand what went on in the movie a little better the first time I saw the movie so I didn't have to watch it three times to understand that there are a lot of hidden clues and biblical philosophy's.SPOILER............... Anyways here is what you need to know to understand Southland Tales this is the end of the movie Sean William Scott is the savior and Kristan Now is the whor* of Babylon, the dragon is Serpentine. And the two evils are the Bobby Frost and his sideman. And the rock is the false prophet That is what you need to know if you didn't get the end of the movie.
