The movie is about Johnny Marco who is played by Stephen Dorff. Marco is a bad boy Hollywood A-lister who parties a lot and sleeps with tons of women. He is staying at the Chateau Mormont while he does press work for his new film. His 11 year old daughter, Cleo, played by Elle Fanning, is dropped off by her mother and she stays with her father. Right from the start we can tell that he's not the greatest dad in the world. He isn't always there for her but he still loves her of course. Along the way, they start spending more time together and he realizes that he needs and wants to be there for Cleo more often.

Sofia Coppola directed this movie. If you have seen Lost in Translation then you know she has a certain style when she directs a movie. She does a great job expressing the point she is trying to get across with this movie. And i really liked the scenery in this too. I thought it was amazing. This is like an artsy type movie if you know what I mean. She has a way of filming such simple scenes and turning them into something extraordinary. For example, there was this scene where Johnny takes Cleo to her ice skating practice. There's this long sequence where Cleo is skating to some Gwen Stefani song. I dont know why but i really liked that scene. You could tell Fanning trained to learn how to ice skate cause it was amazing. I really hope Sofia keeps making more of these good movies cause this one was well done.

I thought Stephen Dorff did a really good job playing Johnny Marco. Personally, I think he is an underrated actor who deserves better roles. Dorff was perfect for as Johnny Marco. They needed a bad boy actor for Marco and they got one. Elle Fanning was wonderful as Cleo too. She was very charming in this. Fanning has a bright future ahead of her if she keeps this up. There is also a cameo from Benicio del Toro in this.

Somewhere can be slow at sometimes but BE PATIENT!!!!!!!It will pay off at the end. I probably put Somewhere in my top 3 of favorite for Independent movies. I was just bored one night so I rented this on I-tunes and I was glad I did. I watched it again before my 24 hours were up for it. If your in the mood for a good art type film, watch this. You wont regret it.

Sofia is hit or miss for me but mostly she is brilliant. However i just do NOT know what she was thinking when she made Marie Antoinette. Its easy to overlook however as she also has great movies and this sounds to of that catagory.

    Nice review as always.

I like Sofia. Not as much as her dad, obviously, but she's good in her own way. Lost in Translation is maybe at the top of my list with my Zen movies. Her movies move at a measured but comfortable pace for me.

Oh, and good review, much better then the last one :)
