This is one of my all time favorite movies. It is about a psychopath nicknamed Buffalo Bill who is murdering young women across the Midwest. The FBI believe it takes one to know one,so they send Agent Clarice Starling to interview a demented prisoner named Dr.Hannible Lecter to provide clues to the killer’s actions.Lecter is a brilliant and diabolical cannibal that agrees to help Starling. But only if she feeds his morbid curiosity with the details of her complicated life.As their relationship develops,Starling is forced to confront her hidden demons. She also has to confront an evil so powerful that she hardly has the courage and or strength to stop it. The standout characters in this movie are Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins.Particularly in the case of Hopkins. He develops Hannibal Lecter into something more than just a cannibalistic murderer. Hopkins’ demeanor, and voice that epitomizes the sound of restrained evil. That help create one of the most memorable character introductions in movie history. He is polite, courteous, and sophisticated, yet his mere presence invokes the feeling of evil. His demeanor is kept throughout the film, and is played so masterfully that Hannibal becomes an intensely likable character, despite the fear that accompanies him each time he is seen onscreen. Then there is Clarice Starling, the ambitious, yet vulnerable and naïve heroine. The film makes Clarice seem as vulnerable and exposed as possible. Starling is surrounded by figures who wish to have her, use her, exploit her, and manipulate her, it is easy for her to gain the audience’s support.Ted Levine also has a stand out performance as Buffalo Bill .He is completely wicked and unforgivable, lacking the enjoyable eeriness of Lecter, and becomes a vent for the audiences’ hate that they should feel for both men.The Silence of the lambs is an unforgettable achievements that will never be topped.

"Yes, Precious, it will get the hose" The best movie (and book) of its kind and generation. My favorite in this genre bar none. Hannibal was a good film, but being a purist, the Hannibal book was just gold. Excellent review.

Great review. But i sort of disagree with you about Silence of the Lambs never being topped. I just think Hannibal was brilliant, just of the fact it being a sequel and is even better when you watch these back to back.
