Shrooms: Review By The CryptKeeper

This movie wasn't cheesy, filled with bad acting, and pretty much everything that a straight to DVD release consists of. Actually, this film is well made. It has problems, yes, but it's not that it's cheesy. And by the 2.5 star rating... well, I know that seems low, but to me 2.5 is "bad, but not terrible'. So, yes, this film is possibly worth checking out.

The story is what makes it bad. It had so much potential, but they didn't do anything interesting. What it's about is some dumb teens go into a forest so they can get high off shrooms.(!) Now, it's a horror movie, so you know something bad is going to happen. But in the movie... what really happens? They die, but how, and by what they're getting killed by is unclear. Now, they make a few notations to a stalker/killer, but they never really show him stab an ax into someone. My take on this movie would be to havw a stalker/killer that kills teens when they're high. But since they're so high, little do they know that they, themselves, are killing themselves. But, that's not what happens, that's just how I would have done the film.

The acting, like I said, is good. It's not amazing, or Oscar Worthy, but none of it is cheesy. Haven't seen any of these actors before, though.

It took 2 directors to make this movie- Robert Walpole, and Paddy McDonald. now, I like the fact that they didn't make is cheesy. With a storyline like this, directors could have done this the wrong way. Now, it was done the wrong way, but not one of the wrong ways, and that being making the teens perverts that screw each other, and do nothing but talk about sex, do sex, and get high. The teens were dumb for going there just for shrooms, but if this makes any sense, they didn't seem like complete idiots.

Visually, a pretty cool movie. I like hoow the camera moves around, almost making you feel high too! Also, non-fake looking blood, and a forest that doesn't look like a set.

So, it's a bad movie, that I recommend, but it's not a waste of rent either... just rent it when it is free, or cheaper than usual.
