Now that we are all up to date, I will start by saying that when I saw the end of the third Shrek movie, I was very pleased. This was a huge hit as a family movie trilogy across North America. But of course, they have to milk the storyline for everything they can get out of it and they tried to make a fourth one. That last sentence was my train of thought going in to see this movie.
The conflict here is that, a guy, whom we have probably all heard the name of from old stories before, Rumpelstiltskin trades a day of Shrek's childhood so that Shrek could have a day to be a 'real ogre' again. So of course nothing could come from that, Rumpelstiltskin takes the day Shrek was born so that he never really existed. Thus giving Shrek one day to break the one day contract which can only be broken by finding true love's kiss. Sounding familiar yet?
I won't go to far into the story for those still wanting to watch it. But after hearing that it wouldn't be to to hard to predict. This movie was a recycle of the other Shrek movies storylines. The result was the exact same as the third movie and there isn't much more else to say about that, there was just nothing new about it.
In an attempt to cover all the basics, the voice acting was just as good as it was before. We all love hearing Mike Myer's Shrek voice, and the supporting actors just seem to fit the roles by the time the series has 4 movies.
The visuals and directing weren't something I took note of in a good or bad way. I will note that I did not see the movie in 3D so maybe that could change the experience for a lot of people. I tend to focus more on the story of a movie rather than these components; which could completely change someone's opinion of a film.
My recommendations go out to the families who loved Shrek before, because the target audience of this movie probably wont be as in depth in their opinion of it as I have been here. I will close with the prayer that they just stop trying, and don't go for a Shrek 5.
