Directing- Guy Ritchie did a pretty good job with this. I mean it's not his best work. I am no Ritchie expert so correct me if I am wrong, but I think this was his first go at a humongous big budget blockbuster flick. Correct me if I am wrong. Overall he did pretty good.
Acting- Downey Jr. was pretty much perfect as our favorite detective. He nailed down the accent and spoke his lines effortlessly. I also like his version of Holmes as a more washed up, conceited Holmes. I also liked how he could fight too(this refers back to the writers too). His fighting was very intellectual and fit perfectly with his character in the sense that he wasn't some sort of action hero, more like "I am Sherlock Holmes and I know a sh*tload about the weakness of the human body." It fit perfectly with this version of Sherlock. Jude Law was the perfect Watson. I loved how he sort of hated Holmes, but loved working with him at the same time. His chemistry with Downey Jr. was for me the best part of the movie. The one thing I did not like however, was Rachel McAdams. I mean, her character wasn't that well written, but she could have at least tried to make the best of it. She wasn't believable at all. Her lines were all delivered so fake and forced. Normally she is a pretty good actress, and when I heard she was in it, I thought she would be perfect for this. I was wrong, she sucked. It was nice to see Mark Strong get a well deserved big role like this, and I thought he did well.
One of the biggest things that won me over however, was the music. Hans Zimmer really impressed me with this score. It combined the old piano sound and new orchestral music perfectly. I actually bought some of the pieces I liked the most on itunes.
All in all, a good film. I had a wonderful time. Go see it if you haven't yet. It's a fun movie, exactly what it should have been.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Good review Cripple. Sweet and short. I must agree Holmes relationship with Watson was the best aspect of the movie followed by the writing being pieced so nicely together and of course the score.
McAdams character was a bit dry, as I also felt Strong's was. Ritchie's directing didn't really add much of anything save a little humor and some fun. Other than that he could have done better. However it was a fun flick for sure.
