Seven Pounds: Review By MovieNerd
Seven Pounds" is depressing but the story is very intriguing, especially the twist ending which should surprise many.

It begins with a man calling 911 and reporting a suicide. When the woman asks who has committed suicide he tells her that he is going to be the suicide victim. We soon learn that the man is an IRS agent who is tracking down seven people, but instead of him turning them in he is there to help these people, not to do his job. All seven of these people have an illness or they are in danger. But they are good people that are in bad situations. He helps them get out of these situations except for a woman with a heart condition. He is determined to help her but her heart condition keeps getting worse and worse.
He starts spending a lot of time with her and there relationship grows. He starts to fall in love with her but he fears that she could die before he gets the chance to save her. We finally find out why is doing these things for the seven people but it just leads to a depressing ending.
The story is excellent but at times is depressing and unmotivated. It has a well pieced together plot that leads to a very good twist. I figured out some of the twist halfway through but the rest caught me off guard. The story isn't very original. It has been done before with the man who wants to help people for undisclosed reasons.
The acting is fine but I was quite disappointed with Will Smith's performance. He plays the character great but it always looks like he is about to cry throughout the film. At points in the movie that is ok, but even at happy times he still looks like he is about to cry. Maybe I am being picky but that kind of bugged me throughout the film. Rosario Dawson is really good here playing the woman with a bad heart. She is very believable in the role.
Director Gabriele Muccino continues to do very well made films. First he had "The Pursuit of Happiness" which is one of Will Smith's better dramatic roles and now he gives us Seven Pounds another dramatic movie with Will Smith. He pieces together the plot to make the ending understandable and believable. Can't wait to see what he does next. I wonder if it will be another dramatic movie with Will Smith.
The visuals are very good. The car wrecks that they have in the film look real and the shots of the beach house that the man lives in are beautiful.
So if you're looking for a dramatic movie with a great story then "Seven Pounds" should be your pick.

It's from the director of THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS so it's bound to be depressing :)

Thanks for a great review. I know now that I probably will not see this film. Depressing films tend to stay with me for a long time so I try to avoid them.
