One of the very few movies to scare me. Nothing to do with spooky-looking places, I'm not impressed by 'mental hospital haunted by the souls of inmates/patients.' The sound design is what scared me. The story involves one of the asbestos-removal specialists finding a set of taped recordings of schizophrenic therapy sessions (hence 'Session 9'). And it is these recordings that got to me, hearing and not seeing someone's mental deterioration. It may be something else for others. Also the specifically mentioned medical surgery that becomes a story device stayed with me for weeks, making me almost sick. Reading about what doctors used to do to schizophrenics is... horrifying. This movie uses sound and visual techniques to great effect to make a truly scary movie with very little.
