Safe House is a 2012 action film.

Directed by: Daniel Espinosa.

Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington, Vera Farmiga, Brendan Gleeson, and Sam Shepherd.

Ryan Reynolds plays a young CIA agent is tasked with looking after fugitive Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington) in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge.

Now, nothing in this movie is new. The conspiracy, the betrayals and spies are all tact and in the same narrative as its predecessors. However, it doe not mean that the entertainment is absent. On the contrary, the entertainment (action, explosions and flying bullets) are ever present and at a Jason Bourne level. Reynolds is no stranger to action star roles (Deadpool, Blade), and here, he is grounded. Playing the novus agent with no field experience, he actually brings something to the table, physically of course. Denzel Washington plays his usual charismatic character, that reflects his previous days when he took on the role in Man on Fire and American Gangster. In this case, he's more on fire than walking tall in Harlem. Vera still a delicious sight for the male eye and Gleeson, well, he's Gleeson and awesome.

I read at review at the tomato farm where the writer pointed out the fresh new directors in Hollywood as of late. With an example for Contraband, this is yet another action movie with a foreign director. So far, it has worked splendidly. Its not a question of a more diverse county of entertainment, but opportunities for these our of state directors. Espinosa does a really good job tackling the action and the strong list of actors presented to him. Though he utilizes the shaky camera technique, it compliments the actions and intensifies the viewing experience. Yes, I have the bad of the film in mind, but if had to exhaust words for a one, it's the hair. Seriously, did they have problems in the make up department? Denzel's hair got grew grayer minute after minute and them went back to perfect pitch black. On a funny note, it looked like Don KIng was fighting in his younger days.

While the story isn't new, the plot is executed in a way that it tries to surprise the viewer. Admit it, these days, you are constantly guessing the next scene or how it all goes down. I admit it. I was trying in the last half hour to conceive a scenario to where this movie headed. However, it had a couple of surprising moments. I don't exaggerate when writing "Jason Bourne level" with the visuals and action. A single sequence in this movie blew me away of how great it translated with the available aesthetics. I see a great future for Espinosa.

Overall, the story isn't new, the action is worthy, Denzel kicks ass and Reynolds is white.
