Rushmore: Review By WiseGuy

You think I got kicked out because of just the aquarium? Nah, it was the handjob. And you know what else? It was worth it.

Like what I said in my review of Bottle Rocket, Wes Anderson's second feautre film, is one of the most original and unique films I have seen. But more quirky, funny, and overall better. Starring Jason Schwartzman as Max Fischer, Bill Murray as Howard Blume, Olivia Wilde as Rosemary Cross, Seymour Cassel as Bert Fischer, Brian Cox as Dr. Nelson Guggenheim, Mason Gamble as Dirk Calloway, and Sara Tanaka as Margaret Yang, Rushmore shares all around good performances.

Shining in his role as Max Fischer, Jason Schwartzman gives the performance of his young career here in his film acting debut. This film helped launced his career. He fits in perfectly as the role of Fischer. Scwartzman is brilliant. Bill Murray is also brilliant. And Olivia Williams gives a realstic performance as the first grade teacher. The three main roles are all extradionarily portrayed.

Rushmore is about a irregular 15 year old teenager who attends Rushmore Academy. He is very active, participating in any school clubs or activites you can come up with. Max Fischer is his name and he is not only the most extracurricular student but also the worst. Meaning not having good grades. Below Average. Herman Blume, an industrialist, is unhappy with his life, having a woman whom he does not love, a drinking problem, and two sons whom he hates. And I dont blame the man his sons are just a couple of ignorant jerks, his wife was flirting with teenagers, and well forget about the drinking incident. He meets the talented Fischer, whom he admires. They soon form a friendship. Rosemary Cross now comes into the film. Cross is a widowed first grade teacher at Rushmore. Attractive to Max, not to me. He spots Cross and falls in love with her. Convincing him he is too young for her, he does not give up and attempts to get her back after Blume forms a relationship with her. Thinking they have a real realtionship, Cross informs Fischer that he is only a kid and they are just friends. Confused, this angers Max and he gets pissed at Blume. And they share in a fun cat and mouse fuse. Blume beats up Max's bike, and Max cuts the brake engine off Blume's car.

A sweet and quirky comedy, Rushmore is one of the better comedies that I recall seeing. One of the most original, for sure. With a very intersting story, Wes Anderson does a great job filming the shots. With his unusual but enjoyable style. An instant comedy classic, Rushmore will forever be a favorite of mine, that I will always look back upon.
