Road Trip revolves around 5 college students attending Ithaca University . (Breckin Meyer, Seann William Scott, Amy Smart, Paulo Costanzo, D.J. Qualls) Josh Papker (Breckin Meyer) makes some sweet love to Beth Wagner (Amy Smart) and they video tape it. Problem is, he's dating someone named Tiffany Henderson (Rachel Blanchard) who is attending a college in Austin, Texas. Another problem, they accidently mail that sex tape to her. AW SH*T! So now Josh, E.L. (Seann William Scott), Rubin, (Paulo Costanzo) and Kyle (D.J. Qualls) must travel across the home of the free and land of the brave to Texas and retrieve that tape. This is a daring mission, they face car explosions, horny old men, blind girls, and more throughout their journey. It is a hilarious ride and I'm glad I was part of it. At first when I realized what I had seen, a witty and funny movie, I compared it to those stupid films like "Van Wilder" and the American Pie movies but not American Pie 1,2, and 3.
The Writers, Todd Phillips and Scot Armstrong are the best duo. They make comedy smart, not like those idiotic films starring Adam Sandler. This Film has a purpose. Except they made a terrible sequal called "Road Trip: Beer Pong." That is what I heard from most people, a terrible movie. Just terrible, and Todd Phillips and Scot Armstrong were arbored on that movie some how. It was a straight to DVD movie. And a mistake. But, at least they made Road Trip a good movie, almost everythime, the first film in a series is the best and in this case, thats true.
The cast In my mind did a great job. Breckin Meyer, Seann William Scott, Amy Smart, Paulo Costanzo, D.J. Qualls are amazing. D.J. Qualls hase appeared in many films that I've seen. And in every movie he plays that nerd or weak kid that people pick on. He even does that in Road Trip but he always does a great job. Like "The New Guy," where is a loser but a man teaches him to be tough and "cool." Seann William Scott is just great, he always does a good job playing that cool kid who always gets laid, he did that in the "American Pie" series. He is one of my favorite actors, he is funny, and he can get serious with like in "Final Destination." I've seen many film/TV shows with Breckin Meyer and I really enjoy them, he has his times being a good actor, but movies like "Garfield" are what put him down.
Director Todd Phillips is just fantastic and brilliant. He is one of the best comedic directors of all time. "The Hangover" is definitely his best movie. A movie where people party in Las Vegas for a bachelor party and they lose the groom. A Very very very smart idea for a movie as was this. He makes up the wackiest ideas for movies. He even produced "All The Kings Men," although it was disappointing and boring, some people liked it and it was an alright remake.
Something that I liked about what he did about Road Trip was how he showed D.J. Qualls' transformation. His character is picked on and cannot stand up for himself but throughout the movie he changes due to his friends. And his character's dad (Fred Ward) is a badass father who doesn't take crap and carries a gun around. He is a very tough man and he wants his son to be too but for Kyle to be tough, he must stand up to his father, and he does. Which is the climax of his transformation.
There isn't too much to say about the visuals. It was perfect but it's not long there were action scenes or anything. The closest thing to violence was when there car jumped a gap and exploded. And the explosion was pretty real. And probably was, I'm guessing that the cinematographer made it real, the actors were standing at a safe distance away so I'm guessing it was pretty legit. The cinematographer, Mark Irwin probably thought that this was a breeze and took the job.
The Bad Part(s) of the Film:
1) Too short. Sometimes films are meant to be longer like this one. It's not that big of a deal for it was very funny in it's 93 minutes.
2) A lot of sexual humor. It's not that bad but sometimes it's just weird.
The Really Good Part(s):
1) I really enjoyed the epilogue. Telling where all the cast member's characters ended up doing after college. Each of them had their own special personality, Paulo Costanzo's character, Rubin mentioned several times that he was born to do something good and successful in his life and he does.
2) The point of view. The point of view of the movie is being told from a man named Barry Manilow (Tom Green). He is addressing soon to be freshman college students at Ithaca University. He tells them the amazing story of Josh Parker. At times it cuts back to him addressing the students and their parents.
In the end Road Trip is a movie that you the readers should see when you're looking for a funny time and looking for a future favorite film.
