'Red Riding Hood' Review By K.Guy

Since I'm a sucker for werewolves, it's a decent werewolf story, but does it really have anything to do with Red Riding Hood?

Youtube has been releasing films on their site for short costs, but for some reason, 'Red Riding Hood' was free! I love a good werewolf story as I told you before, so I decided to watch this and see if this is really a worth watching film. Now, 'Red Riding Hood' had 50% of things I liked and 50% of things I disliked. So, it was an alright film, I think it could've done a lot better, but there were enjoyable stuff. Going back, before it went to production: I was thinking that after reading werewolf stories and watching werewolf movies, I said that 'I would like to be a part of that', and thought a 'Red Riding Hood' adaptation (in an extended version) would be a good start in the future. But then, I see the news article about 'Twilight' director, Catherine Hardwicke was creating her version of the story, I was half happy and the other said 'darn'. I soon found out that it was being produced by Leonardo Di Caprio and I thought this might turn out well. I liked the trailer and the looks of the movie, but I think they really could've retitled it to something else instead of 'Red Riding Hood', because it clearly has no comparison, except that she's wearing a red hood. I decided not to go see it, for the facts of the negative reviews, and that I never go see a movie that I'm not sure of, because it mostly ends up terrible like 'Crank 2', 'Gamer', 'Jonah Hex', and 'Piranha 3D'. Decent werewolf story, horrid adapting.

A young woman named Valerie is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter, but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry. Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie's older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life. Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon, to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon's arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. As panic grips the town, Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast--one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect and bait.

I'll give these guys early credit, they had beautiful, artistic posters and or any cover. The best one would go for the soundtracks cover which has Valerie on her knees while her red hood lays flat on the snow, but at the end of it, it transits into blood. That's like the best artwork for a 'Red Riding Hood' project. All off it's posters were very artistic, but if only the movie was as good.

What I've enjoyed in this film is first of all, the soundtrack. That celebration scene was so catchy with that music in the background, there's no doubt that you would start tapping your foot and nodding your head, because that scene was very well filmed and matched the soundtrack's mood perfectly. I also like the colorful settings throughout the film, I like how they given it that style, I can't describe it, but I like it. I also like that they casted Amanda Seyfried as Red, that is the perfect choice for fitting the character as written 'a beautiful young woman'. And absolutely great costume designs, and that goes for everyone. Pat yourself on the beck, costume designers, great job. Last, I really like the mystery on who is the werewolf, because it is kind of a twister. While watching it, you'd probably have 3 choices on who is the werewolf when its actually not them, they may seem susp*cious, but everything is explained when the werewolf speaks the truth about everything. Great twister for a mystery.

Now, first of all, a few guys in this film did dreadful and some did good. Seyfried was alright, she had the tone, but not the face at times. When she sees her sister bleeding oil, she gets surprised, but by the looks of her face, she's sees a present. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VALERIE!! And the two twilitish looking men, who are the guys who are in love with Valerie, gotta get some better acting lessons, cause they were dry as dirt! The one who played Henry was they worst, what you say on the script is good but how you say it is dreadful. They were only good for their actions, not there voice nor their facial expression. And Gary Oldman has done way better than this. He had a terrible voice tone for some scenes, but at least he cannot be compared to his Gordon character on Nolan's working Batman trilogy. I also didn't like the cgi. The werewolf was a decent design, but it's very ugly on how he runs. I gotta say to moviegeek, when was a wolf costume useful for this? I won't explain the ending, but it could have been a longer ending instead of trying to make it look like the story is not over... or is that what your going for? Last, I really hated that they made this a 'Red Riding Hood' movie, when it's clearly not. There is a small comparison, but I don't want to spoil for those who actually want to watch it.

I really think this movie could have been done better and I wish I could share an extra paragraph on how I would've done it, but since this went to production, it all flushed out of my brain. So, I can't remember. The movie was okay in my opinion, it's a red box rental, or just go to youtube and see if it is still up and free. Don't buy the DVD, you won't know what your up against. To you guys, don't, just let it pass. Careful Catherine, this film nearly went into my 'bad films' list. I'm the MovieWiz, thanks for reading.

    @corey Same opinions here, but I've never read the books. I think David Slade should have stayed, but Breaking Dawn still looks good.

    @kguy I like Twilight too man. Well...the books, at least. I still enjoy watching the movies though cause then I can compare it to the first. The first Twilight was m'eh. Pretty bad adaptation if you ask me Gave it a 2/5. New Moon was a little better. Adapted much better than the first, and it had a better pace. 3/5. Eclipse was the best because it followed the nook 100 percent and I liked the story. Though, the fighting was a little cheesy. 4/5

    As for Breaking Dawn, the book was tough to finish. Slow, boring, and no excitment. I wanted something epic, yet instead I got 600 pages of Jacob bitching again. Not sure how the movies will do.

    @moviegeek I'm loosing my Twilight team, man! DoubleR0522 rated the twilight saga 4.0, 4.5, 4.5 and gives an early rate of 0.5 and he says he don't like Twilight. I've been the only one who thumbed up a Breaking Dawn news article. And Eclipse had more! What's happening?

    @kguy Be afraid muhaha.

    Nah, dude. I respect people who can like a movie that I don't and explain why in more than 100 words and without ever using the word "cute".
