We've seen this before...... Prepare for a Push of a great concept accelerated with a poor execution

Ok, so I've had enough people praise this film via critics, friends and so much more. Also Chris Evans as a kind of like superhero, I wanted to grab a taste of what to possibly expect from Captain America, they ain't the same I know and I'm aware but their similar.

The story is quite simple and bland, there are super humans among us normal beings and their is a unit known as The Division, which is led by Henry Carver (Djimon Hounsou) who is a Pusher, one of the variety of the many known super-humans. The Division has a drug that no one has survived, a drug which is used to enhance a super-humans abilities to a next level. During the course of our beginning obviously one of the super-humans survives the drug, shes the greatest Watcher called Kira aka Patient Zero (Camilla Belle). But it has to get more complicated right? Of course it does.... So Kira does a runner with the drug. Which spirals on a cat and mouse chase between Nick (Chris Evans), Cassie (Dakota Fanning) and their little gang with The Division and the Super-Triads, to find patient zero and the mysterious case she is carrying. Also obviously some of them hold grudges and have dark pasts upon one another.

Acting on this film is by far the best aspects of the film and the cast doing an amazing job of staying in character and keeping these characters in a state of realism that you can actually believe they exist. Despite Chris Evans does a great job portraying his character it feels like everyone outshines him within this, even Dakota Fanning, whom anyway is a better actress, to take note. Djimon holds up a fair performance, but his problem is that his not menacing enough to be dubbed scary. But what i like about his character is that his attacks are more psychological, but this gives him an advantage because his a pusher.

But in my prospect opinion its the youngest people that steal the show here, which is Dakota Fanning and Colin Ford, who plays Young Nick, who despite has very small screen time his performance within that small periodical time limit is top class.

In terms of the adults, I'd give the props to Camila Belle for the females. Then for the males, Neil Jackson, who plays Victor, who is Henry's kind of bodyguard, but his deliverance of his character outshines everyone within the film. He outshines in both the action and the drama department, which is a unique thing to do, to outshine in both aspects.

Although I did like this film the director, Paul McGuigan does a very poor job on an awesome concept, with an amazingly poor script by David Bourla, which seems to have been ripped from a variety of its inspirations, who execute it in a far more superior visual aspect. While the concept of this film is really wicked, its poorly executed with a bland story for its entirety of a run time of about 1hr and 51 mins. But the character development is really good and its nice how each character intertwines around each other like a pretzel. But while the concept and the character development delivers the film falls flat on its face with its story.

The visuals of this film are pretty cool when they aint trying to play gunfight with no hands. The end sequence is quite visually amazing and the fight between the Victor & Nick is amazing and is reminiscence of some what to something like an live-action anime, with like telekinetic powers blasting out with every punch and gives it a kind of computer-like feel. Visually this film is an achievement except for when there are floating guns, they just too cgi and to me it's a massive surprise that these guys whom can do some quite cool SFX fail in a basic SFX visual technique, there is actually no need for the use of CGI for a sequence involving the floating guns and the guns actually need not to be CGi, which looks tacky and makes the film look poor.

What I admired is the acting of the cast they pull off great performances, especially the young and talented and they surpass their veteran colleagues on so many different acting levels. Also another great thing is the concept of this film but its executed so poorly, it just feels like a massive let-down. It feels like the concept of X-men & X2 but then in its execution your just given The Last Stand.

What I damn well hated was the poor story which is the poor execution of this film, its not a strong enough plot to hold the film. Also there was way too many errors from disappearing syringes, to scenes being told differently to lockers magically fixing themselves and disappearing guns, there are a lot of mistakes and its a shock that no one noticed them on set, I guess they need a new continuity person, because I've seen college students do better continuity.

While this film holds a great concept it poorly delivers a good hard hitting concept and well while we have seen stuff like this before, this is the poorest version I've seen.

Its definately a good rental but if you want something with a bigger and better story line stick to the good ones like X-men 1 & 2 (dont venture further than that, your hurt yourself). You can also stick to them with in series style with the British TV show 'MISFITS' which is far superior than push and just exploded off TV with its 2nd season finale with a 3rd arriving soon. Or if your proper old-school, you can head back to were it all begun with 'Misfits Of Science.'

I watched a bit of this on a friend's laptop. Can't say I was very impressed so I didn't go out to see the rest of it. Your review pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter. Another good one, sir :)

    Totally agree @Summit

You want to see the best adaptation, watch MISFITS, its kind of a British version to Misfits Of Science, but so much better in my opinion

very nice review, i do agree that this film had a bad script adding insult to injury the bland performance and the plot brings!

btw, Misfits of Science can be more of a potential than this one! :)

    Thanks @Wichi

@Wichi neither did I but i was curious, the concept of the film is really cool but the only bad thing is the execution of the story is very poor and the story ain't strong enough to hold up.

great review, but again, the majority of the audience of Push really hated it. But I didn't see it, but because of your opinion I might sometime. And I really don't are if a majority doesn't like it because that's what THEY think, and this is what you think. But because of your review, I might check it out, great job :)

Its a good flick with a great concept, despite I've seen stuff like this before, @Sly. Its just a really piss-poor execution.
