Punisher: War Zone: Review By Newkill3000

Now, I don't know about you, but where i live, if you didn't see this film, within the two weeks it was released, you will only be able to see this online or just wait for the DVD, because this movie was gone from every theater that i can get to. It was like it just vanished. This movie did horrible in the box office, but i wonder if this was released before the one with Travolta, would it have done better. Maybe people are just tired with the whole Punisher stuff.

Although this did terrible, this was the best Punisher movie I've ever seen, and to be honest, the best movie adaptation of the Punisher ever done. If you go way back to the first Punisher film, in 89, with dull ass Dolph Lundgren, you notice it did have that good dark Punisher movie setting, but it still didn't capture the feel of it, mainly because of Lundgren's extremely poor performance of Castle. Throughout the entire movie, it seemed like he was mostly constipated than rather being depressed. I mean really what else could you expect from a Dolph Lundgren flick. This guy had me thinking Brandon Lee sucked, until i saw him go solo in Rapid Fire, where he was just amazing in it. Then i went back to watch Showdown in Little Tokyo and figured out that it wasn't Lee's fault. The blame should go all on Dolph lame performance, but he does play some good villains. I'll give him that. That's the only roles he should be playing. Some actors can play both antagonist and protagonist and some can just play one, and Dolph can only play one and that's the bad guy. Sgt. Andrew Scott, in Universal Soldier, was his best performance in a movie, that I've ever seen. Even when he played Rocky's counterpart, where he didn't have much dialogue, still did great, especially when he killed Apollo. Everyone hates Apollo. But Dolph Lundgren as the Punisher, nope, never going to fly. It almost seemed like he took the role thinking that he was a good guy, which clearly the Punisher is not. Just his whole performance, very cheesy, and makes me almost call this a dark version but power ranger like.

Onto Thomas Jane's version, which is written by Jonathan Hensleigh, who gave us good films like Die Hard 3, Armageddon, and the Saint. Too bad he doesn't score points with this version, but i must admit when i first saw this i was pretty satisfied with it. Now, when i watched it again, i was so disappointed and bored out of my mind. It did have a throwback to the 60's and 70's action films, which i did enjoy, but it's to comic booky. Just because your making a comic book into a movie doesn't mean you have to have every comic book aspect involved, such as the dialogue, which made the movie seem kind of lame. It didn't suck ass like the first one, but it wasn't all that great either.

Punisher War Zone, baby, oh yeah. If you know anything about The Punisher comics, then you know this version truly lives up to it. The first two versions took the filming way too, seriously, which shouldn't be done. The comics are very dark and gloomy, but it's also very goofy. I mean it's no way you can take this guy seriously. Man, i knew this movie was going to be bad ass, when i heard Marvel Knights production was going to be involved. This movie is disgusting in a very good, gorified way. I just wish i had seen this in the theaters. Ray Stevenson deserves all the praise of making this movie great. His performance was just dead on from the beginning. A thin storyline but I've never seen this much great action, punishingly violent filming done in a long time. It was like Lexi Alexander said f*ck all you p*ssy ass men who make that soft ass Pg-13 kiddy sh*t, just to make money; I'm going to make a real deal movie. Also, i think Colin Salmon did a good job in this, too, but he just needs to stop using a f*cking American accent. He did that sh*t in Resident Evil. Man, i here your accent. You can't do an American accent, so just stop, and really you don't need because you'll already be good without. But that's all. If you thought the 2004 Punisher was better than this, then you should just go ahead and watch some Vr troopers. But i know that's not going to happen, cause you'll think War Zone is the best.
