P.S. I Love You: Review By Natshell
I'm a sucker for sweet romance. I admit it. Sometimes you just want to curl up with a cup of cocoa and a sentimental love story.

I love me some Gerry Butler so this movie was a no brainer for me. The man is just hot. This movie showed him at his sweet, sexy, goofy best. I mean who wouldn't fall in love with that guy sitting there shirtless and playing a love song with his guitar. And that crazy, sexy, silly suspender dance? Fuhgedaboudit; I was toast.
The whole concept was incredibly romantic and sappy and I loved it. The guy is dying and his only thought is for how his lovely Holly is going to get through it. Kathy Bates as Holly's mom is, as usual outstanding.
I was thrilled that they didn't go for the trite ending with Holly and Danny (or anyone else for that matter) happily ever after. I get sick of movies sending us the message that the story isn't complete until the people are coupled. They gave us a hint that it was brewing in her future (duh, gorgeous, smart... she'll find someone if and when she is ready) but they didn't make that the point. And, as a middle-aged woman, I LOVED that they hinted at a possible romance for Mom as well.
Now for my few complaints. First, what was with Harry Conick Jr? He seemed to be trying to play some sort of mentally challenged guy! And he sort of went with a "duh.. whut?" expression throughout as well! I am usually a fan but I kept thinking, "and what would she see in this guy?" This was not the same guy as in Hope Floats. Jeffrey Dean Morgan had the same appeal as her late husband so that was almost scary/weird but it made a lot more sense. I mean it would be like she married her dead husband's clone but if she fell for it once....
Second and more significantly for me, why the heck did they make a guy with a sexy-as-hell Scottish accent speak with an Irish accent???!! The book was in Ireland. I get it. And I am the first one to complain about major changes when books go big screen. But I would have loved gorgeous Scottish accents, scenery and cultural references every bit as much and it would have kept the story intact. Just my opinion. I realize that any Irish out there will probably slam me but I stand on my opinion. The gorgeous scenery was a great part of the film but there is equally gorgeous scenery in Scotland. And we would've gotten to listen to Gerry's real sexy accent instead of a phony, slightly awkward one;o)
Bottom line, I'll buy it cuz there are times when I'm just in the mood for something sweet and warm. I call them my cocoa movies and this will be a fine addition.
