Pokemon Heroes: Critic Reviews

A tedious, unimaginative affair.

This one's for kids and no one else.

The same old grab for the wallet.

The pied piper of shameless kiddie-marketing strikes for the fifth time in as many years.

We've seen it all before, and too many times.

It's one of those little ironies that as interest has flagged in the animated Pokemon movie franchise, the scripts have actually gotten better.

It looks cheap and feels slapped together.

Having settled into a formula of maximum action and minimal whimsy for its battery of feature releases, the makers of Pokemon Heroes: Latios & Latias barely raise a ripple as they tread water in this fifth entry.

Surely a form of child abuse.

A reasonably entertaining entry that, thanks to its exotic setting and several new characters, should prove engaging for the small fry and not too painful for their adult chaperones.

Below-average and too violent for younger kids.

[I]t seems these things are being made and released by rote. If no one went, would the next one come out anyway?

The result is impressive but does little to further the experience.

There are, alas, the requisite new characters and this round it's a pair of winged critters with high-pitched grating 'voices' that sound most awfully like Mr. Bill from Saturday Night Live.

It's a pointless exercise in animated tedium.

An easily avoided waste of time.

At worst, you're paying to see something you can basically see on television.

The new characters' voices are even more grating and annoying than in previous installments, and some of the animation seems downright archaic.

All that a piece of product like Pokemon Heroes will inspire is the urge to nap.

Kids will revolt, parents will snooze, and I will be downright giddy if I never encounter another Pokemon movie as long as I live.

Those who haven't fallen under the Pokemon spell will find little here to convert them.

If you still have Pokemon fans at your house, I suppose there's no harm in taking them to see this movie; but with Pixar's Finding Nemo set to open in a couple of weeks, surely you can find something better to do this weekend.

Nothing can save this sinking ship of a film series.
