Directed by: Gore Verbinski.
Starring: Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
Our sea-tale follows the quest of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johny Depp), a savvy pirate, and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), a resourceful blacksmith, as they search for Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). Elizabeth, the daughter of the governor and the love of Will's life, has been kidnapped by the feared Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Little do they know, but the fierce and clever Barbossa has been cursed. He, along with his large crew, are under an ancient curse, doomed for eternity to neither live, nor die. That is, unless a blood sacrifice is made.
Arguably one of Disney's greatest treasures and Brukheimers golden chest, that takes you int on the world of hornswaggling, back stabbing, pouder monkey Pirates. To this day I have not had the pleassure to experience the ride that inspired this grand adventure of scallywags. The only movie in my book that holds for a true pirate film would be the classic Cutthroat Island, but that's a review for another day. Curse of the Black Pearl was everything you would hear in a pirate story from an elder of the old days. More than just searching for gold. Disney brings to life the magic and curses that venture in the blue seas and home to all thieves. Indeed this is Disney's Caribbean Star Wars.
The Actors:
The great thing to ever happen to this franchise is none other than Jack Sparrow. A fictional character and the lead protagonist in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series created by screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, portrayed by Johnny Depp. Sparrow is a trickster who uses wit and deceit to attain his goals, preferring to end disputes verbally instead of by force. And what better way to do all this than being drunk with a love of rum. It's that single comedic attribute that only Depp could have incorporated so elegantly. A character that will go down in history as a classic persona. There will never be another in our generation.
Followed by the ever favorite antagonist, Captain Barbossa, portrayed by Geoffrey Rush. Fans of this series of films could ask for a greater villain/companion to our hero. Formerly known as Hector Barbossa", he has this fond of apples, that appear in the film. Forbidden fruit yes, but a favorite that with his curse, can never savor. After a while you might say that his ambition in this film is to be able to taste this fruit again, and goes to any lengths to reach the treasure of Cortez's and rid himself and his crew of the curse.
And what plot with these men be without some of Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom? Our own tropical Romeo and Juliet. The pawns in Sparrows plans and the thorn in Barbossa's bone. Some might have found them annoying, I found them entertaining.
We finally have the recognizable Black Pearl. Originally property of Sparrow, earned by abyss and magic, becomes Barbossa's and the only reason why our drunk hero even sticks around.
For a budget of $140 million, it was money well spent, generating a stunning $305,413,918 domestically and $348,850,097 overseas. it mostly makes the whole "X marks the spot" phrase quite literal. The score for the movie was adventurous, blended perfectly to the action and the main characters. The costumes for Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa was great. If it is one thing that I love about movies set in this time are the costume designs.
My only distaste from this installment was the environment that surrounds our characters. For title states "Caribbean", it is mostly a dark and foggy world for what should be a more tropical scenery. But hey, we still get our small islands, ports, and militia.
Overall: If you haven't come around this shining booty, your missing a whole lot you lazy Marooner. Until then, see you soon while I the embark on a journey for the eternal pulse of the sea.

Great review. You like the film a little more than I do, but it's great nonetheless.

@bawnian-dexeus First @corey then you. I'm seeing a pattern here on MW. Users are going back and reviewing the first couple of Pirates movie before On Stranger Tides opens. I'd do the same if I didn't already have one on here from 3 or so years ago (which, complain, complain, I CANNOT edit!)
Great review by the way. Clear and right to the point. Completely agree how it's like the "Caribbean Star Wars."

If you plan on reviewing the whole trilogy, we'll be in competition as we will both be putting up our reviews at the same time :P Anyways, great review man. One of your longer, more detailed reviews. :)
