Yesterday we went to see MNIK in the cinema in Germany. Unfortunately it has been violently cut so that it is only telling half of the story.

No...Hum Honge Kamyab singing. No Mama Jenny and funny hair Joel meeting with Rizwan. No memorial service and therefore also no singing in the church or Rizwans beautiful speech about mera beta Sam. There is only a short cut aprox. 10 sec. to Wilhemina when the television team comes there to see Rizwan, there in the church, but one does not know why he is there, since there is no personal connection made to Wilhemina in Georgia. It becomes confusing and does not make any sense. Many important parts of the film are missing. And worst of all....Rizwan does not meet with the President Mr.Obama in the end! The special and emotional moment where Mr.Obamas speech is over voiced with the thoughts of Mandira is also lost. The end is really not good at all. It is just the security person asking Rizwan if he is Rizwan Khan and saying: "The President wants to see you". Then it is black screen and Rizwans voice saying "My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist". That is the end... a black screen...and a voice.

I felt sooooo.......... sorry since many of my favourite moments was lost. Do not be surprised if the film is not a success in Germany. It is no longer the film that you have so beautifully made. Many of the moments where one comes to know, fell for and love Rizwan are simply not there anymore. Somehow the film seamed somewhat impersonal and not at all as good. I am really very sorry for that and hope that you will find better persons to adapt your films in the future. It may be a long film, but that is no excuse to cut it so violently. You have a very precise way of building up a story and when it is cut like this many of your important points are lost.

The film was presented on the main German television news on the 10.06.2010 as very special and highly recommended Film. Normally no film is presented like that in the news on television in Germany. The success in England was also mentioned. (They must have showed the original Film in England in full length!?) I feel sorry for all the persons that see this version in Germany as the first and only version. In my opinion this version should be stopped and only the original one should be shown.

At least I hope that the original will be on the DVD in Germany.
