From the very beginning with the credits getting screwed up with the hilarious subtitles, to King Arthur pretending to be on a horse with his loyal "Patsy" banging coconuts behind him for sound effect like a horse, Holy Grail is filled to the brim with silliness. What always gets me though is between the silliness, you have characters saying intelligent things, but at the same time doing pointless, stupid things while saying them lol.
As the title points out, the plot of the movie is King Arthur's search for the holy grail. We follow him as he gathers his knights, then split off into their own crazy adventures before meeting up again near the end of the movie, which ends on a very anti climatic but hilarious note. The first time I finished watching the movie, I was like "what the f*ck just happened?!". But like I said, it gets better and makes more sense the more you watch it.
Generally I'm not one for slapstick comedy, but I find Monty Python to be the exception. Between this, Life of Brian, Yellowbeard, The Meaning of Life, And Now For Something Completely Different, and the many other movies they've done, I can never get enough of them.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail probably isn't for everybody. I've known a few people who think it's just dumb. But I chalk that up to them not understanding the humor and genius of how the Pythons skew everything.
In the vein of Airplane, Spaceballs, and other classic slapstick comedies, if you haven't seen this, you owe it to yourself to watch it.

On your second to last paragraph: I know someone who didn't understand a thing about this film or its humor so they kept themselves amused with the only thing in the movie they found funny: the "horse"man with the coconuts.
"The coconut guy!!" ...
dot dot dot indeed.

I actually don't own this movie, surprisingly. I may do the Blu Ray deal on this one.

Nice review, man! Too the point, not overlong. A true classic in every sense of the word. 4.5 in my book, and sitting on my shelf.
