"Miracle at St. Anna" is a good war film but it could of been better. In addition the running time is too long.

"Miracle at St. Anna" starts off in 1986 when a mysterious man kills someone for no apparent reason. We have a flashback throughout the film. It follows four African American soldiers stuck behind enemy lines in Italy during World War II. One of the men finds a young Italian boy and decides to bring him along. They are surrounded by Nazi soldiers in a small town.

It has a good story based off the book written by James McBride who also wrote the screenplay. I am starting to get sick of all the World War II movies coming out. How about a movie that takes place in World War I. Don't see to many of those do you?

The four actors who play the African American soldiers are terrific but almost everyone else either over acts and is not believable in the role.

Director Spike Lee does an ok job. The battle sequences are epic and huge. But this film is definetly not as good as "Flags of our Fathers." Which was directed by Clint Eastwood. The man who Spike Lee had a feud with for not having enough black actors in his two war films. So I'm sure he was trying to make it better but it falls short.

The visuals are great. Like I said the battle scenes are fantastic. The film is hard to watch when large groups of people are massacred and they catch all of it on screen.

I appreciate Spike as a filmmaker and I thought this was quite an accomplishment for him. I will admit though, there were some drags which made the running time feel long but other than that I thought it was a Oscar worthy WWII film. The cinematography was awesome just like in most of Spike's most current films.

I was quite impressed with this movie, but I don't think much of Spike as a person. He is a great director though.

Saw those two already. Why'd you recommend those two? Cause there the exception to the rule?

How about all the other movies that deal with race? Like:

    She's Gotta Have It
    School Daze
    Mo' Better Blues
    Do The Right Thing
    Jungle Fever
    Malcolm X
    He Got Game
    Bamboozled
    Love and Basketball
    Jim Brown: All American
    She Hate Me
    Sucker Free City

Hell... he even did a Tales From The Crypt ripoff called Tales From The Hood with mostly black actors.

    He's gotta get over it.

nice review... but I rarely ever watch any Spike Lee movies... he always makes his movies a race issue. He's a great director but if he'd just stop bitching about the race issue I'd probably see more of his movies. For now... he sucks (not as a director though haha).

I might still go see it... who knows. Good review.
