Patrick Dempsey is great in this role of Tom, a philandering rich man whose best friend is a woman he's never slept with. Hannah (Michelle Monaghan) and Tom met in college years ago and have remained best friends ever since. They know each other like the back of their hands. They are the perfect couple. There's only one problem. They're not a couple. Tom refuses to let himself fall for any woman, and Hannah has given up on the prospect of changing him.
When Hannah goes to Scotland for 6 weeks on a business trip, Tom realizes he is in love with her. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. So, when she returns he decides to tell her about his feelings. The only thing is, Hannah returns with a fiancé. Realizing he is going to lose her, Tom is completely dejected, and when Hannah asks him to be her Maid of Honor, well, that is the icing on the cake. However Tom thinks that by being close to Hannah during this period, he can make her see that he has changed, and maybe they have a chance of finally being together.
The fun begins when Tom joins the other bridesmaids and the wedding planning is in full swing. Tom does everything to make the prospective groom look bad while trying to make himself look good, but things don't go according to his plans.
This is a cute story even though it's been done before. It's predictable, but also filled with fun and humor. And yes, Dempsey is just as McDreamy in this film as he is in his TV series. And because the entire wedding party travels to Scotland, you could say he is genuinely "Mc"Dreamy.
As Dempsey reflects on his character, he says, "Tom has it all, right up until Hannah gets engaged - and then he realizes that his seemingly perfect life is nothing without her in it."
Made of Honor is My Best Friend's Wedding meets You've Got Mail. It's a cute romantic comedy and a fun springtime movie.
