Madagascar's success is not in its main characters (who are fairly dull), but in the hilarity of its side characters like the penguins, the chimps, and the hilarious Julian, king of the lemurs (voiced by the brilliant Sacha Baron Cohen). It is certainly no Shrek, but falls on the Dreamworks scale somewhere around Shark Tale; it is a much better film than Robots.
