Robert Rodriguez's latest, Machete, is about one of the silliest, action packed romps since, well, his last one, Planet Terror. And while its purposely cheesy, it feels like a breath of fresh air to me with some good, old fashioned grindhouse violence. And it was surprisingly not a bad movie, either. I was fully entertained by it's style, its music, and comical references to real life myths (Michelle Rodriguez's character is She, a rip on the revolutionary named Che).

Machete's story is simple enough. Danny Trejo's character is picked up and asked to take out a senator (Robert DeNiro), but is double crossed in the process. Meanwhile, Jessica Alba (who is sooooo smokin' hot in this it isn't funny) is an ICE agent with a special interest in Machete.

I think what I enjoyed most is that this is just a good hard R movie. I grow tired of all the PG-13's out there, sometimes I need my violence fix, and Machete more than delivers. Heads, limbs roll every 15 minutes or so, to over-the-top goodness. There was more then a dozen times I was laughing and shaking my head at the absurdness of this movie, but enjoying the hell out of it at the same time.

There was only two disappointments I had with Machete. One, I thought Michelle Rodriguez's character would have more action time when she was She, and two, not enough naked Jessica Alba. Scarlett Johannson still takes the cake for me, but Alba is now a close 2nd.

Not a whole lot more to tell, as Machete isn't a deep thinking movie. It's not for the squeamish, or for families. This is really a guy movie, and I have to admit, I had a lot more fun with this than Expendables. I didn't care too much for the political pandering that is obvious, but its all light hearted, so that didn't bother me too much. Plus you get to see Lindsey Lohan naked and in an outrageous role, so not much argument there.

See this for your grindhouse fix, you won't be disappointed.

I haven't seen any of Robert Rodriguez's ever. Which ones do I need to see.

Have yet to see the movie, but I definitely agree on Alba. It's just a shame she isn't a better actress.

This film is degrading to latino culture and should be ignored because that is what it deserves. Proof positive that just because you can do something, it does not mean that you should.

MovieMax, you nailed it. This film sucks. In fact, it's so boring we didn't stay to the end and would like our money back. Instead of making a real film that entertains, they've paid thousands of posters and reviewers who are astroturfing this as worth the time. What a scam! Huge SCAM.

Ahem... You will in fact be disappointed IF you are an admirer of the old 70s Grindhouse flicks. Those were their very own art form. This is SCHLOCK. It reminds me of watching THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN on steroids. So much of this film is so over the top that it quickly becomes BORING and PREDICTABLE. They should have titled it THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MEXICAN instead since it looks like they pocketed the other $19 Mil. Save your DINERO.
