First thing in my mind when the action started "This would make a great theme park ride. I would totally pay admission to sit on a T-Rex skull and ride the center of our mother Earth." Generally, this movie was indeed a fun ride, even if I didn't get to see it in 3D the first time around. Why? Well, the screens weren't in full operation at the time in Puerto Rico. Still, the adventure was visual eye candy for families.
We start with our witty Brendan Fraser who plays Prof. Trevor Anderson, who's job requieres paying attention to any seismic activity around the world while being a professor at the local university of the same field. Proving Volcanic fissures, his job is at stake. When activity erupts in a remote location, he and his nephew, Sean Anderson played by Josh Hutcherson travel to the Center of the Earth with an explorer and encounter the wondrous adventures of the unseen.
Now, compared to the very first, this marks the 14th attempt and a classic interpretation from a classic novel. if you grew up with the original, you'd be glad that the most that has change is the execution, look, feel and beginning to end. Originally the idea to travel to the earth's center was to prove the creation of all life and the planet. Comparing both films, they follow the same scientific theories around the lush of life core. The difference is, we don't really take this one as serious as it's grandfather. The original was driven by a talented cast to carry the science and adventure all into one entertaining epic. This newer version is mostly carried by Brendan Fraiser and the heavy 3D.
The cast is simple and not the best. Well, lies, the best thing about the movie is Brendan. Can never go wrong with this man. Where has he been? He needs more work. Josh has come a long way today as an actor and shows signs of improvements with each film, serious or campy.
As for the 3D, no matter how many times you see it, at least for me, it was forced. From the water spit, diamond, the swiss army knife, compass, and everything else. Don't get me wrong, the visuals were good, but you could tell that the surrounding was all green screen and what was meant to be 3D and not. Favorite part would obviously have to be the T-Rex chase. Who doesn't, or better yet, what kid or adult doesn't go gaga for a dinosaur? Put a dino in anything and people of all ages will go see it. My only problem with finding the logic of it all is how anything really survives down there. I mean, from all the description, the volcanic eruptions basically destroys the whole world. Might mean that the Center of the Earth reboots itself? Don't know, don't even want to make sense of it.
Overall, a fun adventure that all families must have ans should still enjoy.
