Though dated by today's standards, this interpretation of Jules Verne's novel takes its adventure quite seriously, no matter how silly it can be to viewers of the 21st century. A sci-fi adventure worthy of its triple Academy Award nominations for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Effects and Best Sound. The difference between this film and the remakes following after, is the scientific intelligence emitted by the novel translated to the visuals. It has the aspects of what an explorations should be. The fascination is authentic that could make real life researchers vomit rainbows. This adaptation is clean fun for the fans of the original. What I did like to look at where the locations scouted to film this adventure. These days you'd be lucky to even see tangible places on screen. The soundtrack manages to keep the stress of the adventure exciting thus flowing the story.
Overall, even if this movie can be shelved with the old, I see it as an important piece of cinema that shouldn't be lost, but expressed.
