After watching AVATAR(237 million) and other big budget movies like TRANSFORMERS 2, 3(both 190+ million), i had huge expectations from this movie. Atleast, Transformers series were great when it comes to Action sequences. I thought this movie would definitely be visual extravaganza. The Visuals were, uh, FAKE. Nothing, Nothing looked real. Mars(or barsoom) looked realistically fake. Watching these films, we can conclude that Avatar is by far the most polished graphical venture we've seen till now.

John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) is an American War soldier who has superhuman powers -- Mars gravity, to name one. He was transported to mars, and gets indulged in the war of the natives. The story is good, and i respect the fact that it was written nearly 100 years ago by 'Edgar Rice Burroughs'. He did write something very original and brilliant. The makers of this movie should have made a film, which would succeed all the existing science fiction films till date.

Taylor Kitsch(as John carter) did fine job. Lively acting from him. Lynn Collins was excellent, stunning and did very naturally, did not look tensed. The other characters were really forgettable. Oh, Wait, one more cute character to add here. Woola, the Barsoom dog-type pet of John carter is very cute. At first, i thought it was somewhat ugly. But believe me, it is really cute.

Director Andrew Stanton, ventures to live action here after Wal-E and Finding Nemo. He creates a world which is sometimes very beautifull and sometimes, as i mentioned earlier, On the other hand, we see Brad Bird, who is also one of the best director of Animated films, who just recently directed Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Brad Bird directed the film with equal quantities of action, CGI and most importantly Pace.

The Movie had its moments. The few action scenes were done perfectly. John Carter fighting an army, fighting two giant white apes, these were my favorite from the film. Tharks looked really original and looked like real creatures which is one of the plus points of this film.

On the Whole, if you are a fan of Sci-fi Adventure films, then go for this film. You'll like this film. One time watch.

3.5/5, B+, Good

@skywise You should see this movie, especially due to the fact that, you read burroughs novels. You will like this film. But still, they should have created a better film only with more quality CGI. Thanks for your positive response. And after watching the film, pls share your opinion of th film here :) :)

great review. I read a lot of Burroughs novels wheni was in high school and i found them to be very exciting. Today his original prints are hard to find and go for a pretty penny so to speak. I have not seen the movie but am disapointed to hear how unreaistic the movie loks. Taylor Kitsch won me over after viewing the Bang Bang club...his performance was fantastic. Initinialy i was a little disapointed with his portrayal of Gambit and some of his other roles like snakes on a plane. But like i said, after his portrayal in TBBC i have changed my mind. Aside from the FX i am most interested to see his John Carter (he wouldnt have been my first choice) but you are not the only one to say his performance was good. i enjoyed your review and am a little disapointed but i will still see it just to take a walk down memory LAME.
