I have high respect for movies that come out of China. When I was younger all I saw where the terribly dubbed kungfu action films. But over the years the films that China has produced are beautifully done and send a strong message about the human spirit and the question for redemption.

Jet Li stars as Huo Yuanjia, a martial artist who is fighting westerners, a boxer, spear fighter and a fender. The movie flashes back to the beginning of everything, as Huo who has asma is unable to learn kung fu.

Eventually Huo learns kunfu and becomes a great fighter. As his success grows so does his arrogance.

A rival teacher supposedly attacks one of Huo's students and the two fight it out in Huo's friend’s restaurant. Huo kills the rival master; the master's nephew goes to Huo's house and murders his family as Huo celebrates his victory.

Destroyed Huo wanders the land and nearly dies. He is rescued and lives for a few years in an isolated village learning the ways of peace and relaxation. He returns to his home a new man, and wishes to set his name and reputation straight.

He challenges a western boxer to a match and beats him with out killing the man. He starts a school Huo goes on to fight the 3 men from the beginning of the film.

One of the best parts of the film is a conversation over a cup of tea. Huo and a Japanese fighter Tanaka sit and discuss tea. Huo response over tea's various flavors not mattering if one is in a good mood. The conversation is deep and powerful and gives great insight into Huo's character.

It is a very good film, beautifully shot and the action is breathtaking.
