As an unknown individual in the streets of Hollywood, with a simple budget of $7 million dollars, Jaws adapted from a novel by Peter Banchley, became the film that turned Steven Spielberg into the A-List director we've come to know, love and respect. This horror/thriller became the blueprint for the summer blockbuster and one of the giant critical and financial success films of the 1970's. What impressed me the most was that you would never have guessed the great difficulty of filming this monstrosity with hand held, in the open ocean. Many films today have the advantage of CGI, green screens, that make the hard work behind this movie a walk in the park. With good old fashion film, 4 hand made animatronic sharks and perfectly edited reels made this fake behemoth into the Devil's demon that scared every viewer in the theater from ever entering the water. Bringing in the unforgettable talents of Roy Sheider, Richard Dreyfus and Robert Shaw, with great character development, chemistry among the three that made them the heroes against the 18th greatest villain in cinema history. When you look deeper into the production of this masterpiece, it could have ended Spielberg's career as a director. Winning three Academy Awards for Best Film Editing, Best Original Dramatic Score and Best Sound and a nomination for Best Picture, it is one of the greatest films of all time.
