Iron Man: Review By CypherUnreal

Needs a bit more work, but is still the best comic film to date.

Among the highlights for the Australian 2008 Schedule, this was probably right at the top of the Must See's on the First day. Wow, i was spot on with this movie.

Iron Man, is the story of international weapons developer Tony Stark, who; like his father, designs and supplies the best weapons of their time.

The film opens with Tony enjoying a ride in a Convoy which is suddenly attacked by what seems to be Islamic Terrorists in Afghanistan. The movie flashes back 36 or so hours in which Tony is to recieve an award for his work, missing it to play at a Las Vegas casino. The movie then takes flight back to Tony showing off his new 'Jericho' missile delivery system. The attack takes place and Tony is forced to develop a Jericho system for the terrorists. Instead of building a replica 'Jericho', he begins work on a large exo-skeleton (The Mk. 1) Afterwards, fearing that his weapons are being supplied to the people he wanted to protect people from, he Begins work on the Mk. 2 and eventually Mk. 3... unaware that his long time family business partner, has secretly been supplying weapons to the terrorists and is building his own Mk I armor (Iron Monger). Tony Seeks out to Stop Iron Monger, and save the people he put in harms way.

The story was well developed, but alot of the parts that involved S.H.I.E.L.D felt heavily under developed, and it seems they cut Nick Fury out entirely from the final cut of the film which was a part i was personally looking forward to.

Acting was spot on for many of the major and minor characters, but i felt alot of the humour from Robert was a bit 'ok' sitting in the audience, there were many funny scenes, but then lame attempts in which there wasn't even a fart or cough.

The Visuals in this film were stunning, from the Mk. I in the first hour, to the showdown between the Mk. 3 and the Iron Monger, where Tony loses parts of his armor... just superb... no rubbery bodies, no fake looks to the jets or Iron Man himself... this was a major advancement in visuals from Spider-man and the such.

Overall, the film did fufil my expectations i went in with, and the Indy 4 trailer really lifted my spirits pre-film. Keep an eye out for Raza's hand, if the ring on his finger looks familiar... you might recognise it to be one of the rings that the Mandarin will undoubtedly wear at a later point (seeing as no-one else has a ring that big)

Also keep an eye out for Rhodes mentioning in Starks 'garage' when he sees Stark flying off in the Mk. 3 he spots what appears to be an Mk. 2 and says "Maybe next time" (in Which he will play 'War Machine' another major character in the Iron Man Comics)

Again, they've set this up close to perfectly for a trillogy, this wont end up like X-men and have sequels that go in no direction... they've learned from that mistake it seems.

Definitely worth the watch.
