This movie really does deliver on many levels; the story, the action, the characters, the rock n' roll tone.

I know I'm repeating what a lot of critics have already said, but Robert Downey, Jr. truly is perfect here! I can't see anyone else in this role and his dialogue is crisp and at times really funny. Gwyneth Paltrow is also nicely sharp as Tony Stark's very capable assistant and the interplay between her and Downey are some of the best character scenes.

The use of more practical effects as opposed to over CG-ing the look of Iron Man and the action around him was the right choice for Director Jon Favreau. You really believe you're looking at hardware the entire time as opposed the obvious contrast between effects and live action a lot of movies like this can have. It's seamless. The same goes for Jeff Bridges' Iron Monger. Plus the heads-up display inside the helmet, giving Tony Stark a 360-degree strategical view of the landscape around him, is groundbreaking.

Some really nice nods to the comics like Terence Howard's character Rhodey glancing enviously at an extra suit of armor in Stark's work area, a nod to his War Machine character that Favreau says will be in the next movie. And there WILL be a next movie! I think one week ago when those glowing critical reviews came in, everyone knew there'd be a sequel.

And yes, we need to send Iron Man to the Middle East to clean house! Another cool scene is when he goes up against insurgents who are using Stark's weapons against helpless villagers. "Iron Man" anties up, plays hard and fast, and delivers the goods I knew he would!
