Lets face the facts, the first iron man movie was a huge hit. I was with the majority opinion of that movie and loved it. Naturally that lead me to high expectations for the sequel. Well I can say that I left the movie theater quite disappointed.
This movie had such a mixture of conflicts involved in it that, by the time it was all over, you just didn't know what the real victory was. There is developed relationship between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts which we all wanted to see, not to mention a little bit of history, of Howard Stark who's research plays some role in Tony's shiny light he has stuck in his chest.
One of two villains in this movie is a Russian physicist named Ivan who has beef against the stark family. That is basically all the viewer find out about the conflict between the two. Even the defeat of this villain is completely unsatisfying. The other half of 'villain' conflict is another weapons developer who tries to outgrow stark industries and get him out of the market by selling his bigger better iron man suits to the U.S armed forces. His defeat isn't much more fruitful than Ivan's.
Looking a little more positive was the acting. I have no complaints about Robert's role as Tony Stark nor any of the other characters, I felt they did a great job but the blur of a plot drown their performance out.
Directing was another thing I can infact compliment. Jon Favreau (who also plays Tony Stark's driver in the movie) did a great job at 'Hollywooding' this movie up with much entertaining explosions and screenplay.
wrapping things up, I don't believe this series was ready for a sequel. The storyline had no depth or description and strongly lacked a sense of 'victory' or overcome of conflict.
Weather this series was ready for a sequel in my opinion or not, it has one now. I would recommend this movie for people who have followed the Iron Man story through the comics, otherwise I will predict a lot of disappointment.
