Beautiful cinematography, strong performances from all, a touching and haunting story... If this film had been about 30-45 minutes shorter in length, I would rate it higher. The greatness of the film diminishes for me because it literally began to feel as though it would never end. Emile Hirsh did a fine job, but yet I felt he didn't quite bring the inner fire that Christopher McCandless possessed to the screen. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with a film for which I held the highest expectations.
