Winter heals the wounds of war...
Directed by: Petter Næss
Starring: Florian Lukas, Rupert Grint and David Kross.
You don't have to know german to understand the calamity of the situation. Sure, the movie could have been subtitled in some parts, but reading the tone of their words, mixed with their location and the problem at hand, it's a given to undersand. During WWII, a group of three German pilots crash land in Norway and seek shelter. At the same time, two British pilots crash in the same location are forced to share the cabin found in the winter wasteland before being deemed German prisoners.
Stuck in a small cabin, they are forced to work together to survive. They are enemies, but cannot ignore the fact of their delicate situation. We see the character pull rank on each other to signify their position of power. However, soon we learn that position of power means little when life is in the balance and the hope to survive lies in the hand of men they have sworn to their country's flag to kill. The metamorphosis of both sides is clear. War later becomes a distant memory while still being existent. They grow up, so to speak. When it comes down to the men sent to fight the wars created by our grandfathers, is it worth it?
I am not aware of the actors in this movie by name, but only one Rupert Grint. Just shy of the Harry Potter saga's end, he has proven to creating a body of work away from the franchise that put him on the map in the first place. The only problem is, with all honesty, of the trio he is the weakest. In the movies he's been a part of he only plays the secondary character ,and sometimes so minuscule you forget he's there to expand his career, yet you tell your friends "Oh, the guy who play Ron in Harry Potter is in this..." so that the movie can gain awareness. It's good and bad. Nevertheless, as previously stated, it is good to see him work after a grand finale.
Into the White has a plan to send a clear message to the men and women of the modern world. We are at war, not at the scale of the past world wars, but there is a chance we might reach that day in the future. War creates enemies out of sister countries full of brethren cut from the same cloth. We are to learn from the characters that forging bonds; friendship is the absolute strategy needed in times of war, blood and death. To bond with the enemy shows the true measure and wits of a man...or woman.
