STORY: The story for this movie was great! It made me think instead of making me want to sleep! While I thought the story for "Shutter Island" was boring and pointless...and dragged on too much which made want to sleep at some points, the story for "Inception" is a hell of a lot better and more interesting than the stupid "Shutter Island." Even though this movie is 2-1/2 hours long kinda like "Shutter Island" was, "Inception" did not drag on at all for me and I actually wanted the movie to continue on after it suddenly ended!
(May contain spoilers) The story is about a thief named Dom Cobb (Leo DiCaprio) and other people he befriends with who are experiencing physical activities in different dream worlds that feels like it's really happening. And that when they die, they wake up back into the real world...or the dream world whenever they're actually still asleep and are going into different dreams! Another story we have is that Dom Cobb is trying to get back home so that he can see his children's faces again since he's been away from home for a long time after his wife's death. And while I was watching this movie, many of the actors were going into different dreams there and there; and I sometimes forget who was dreaming, and whether or not it was set in yet another dream world in some parts, especially at the end of this movie!
I thought the story was so creative and unlike anything I've ever seen! The dialogue made sense too, especially the 'The Dream Is Real' tag line on the poster! This movie also reminded me of "The Matrix" because it kinda has the same style like it, except there's no robot technology, sci-fi future, green colors, or any of that!
ACTING: Even if I'm not a fan of his, Leo DiCaprio did a good job and his performance in this movie was a lot better than his mediocre acting in the horrible "Shutter Island." I had no problems with his acting in this movie. Other actors in this movie did great too, and we got two actors who were working with Christopher Nolan in the latest "Batman" movies: Michael Caine and Cillian Murphy, but the one who really stole the show for me was Marion Cotillard. Her character brought serious emotion and even some suspense in this movie. She plays Leo's dead wife who is what Leo thinks about most of the time in his dreams. Marion was perfect for her role, especially the way she acted during that one scene when she curiously interrogated Ellen Page after Ellen came into Leo's secret not-supposed-to-be-there dream world. All the actors in this movie did great and I had no problems with that whatsoever!
DIRECTING: Christopher Nolan is a brilliant director! His style for his movies is great! He is also a scriptwriter and he knows what he is doing when he is writing a story and thinking of cool dialogue like he did with "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight!" Some people are actually thinking of Nolan as a better screenwriter than James Cameron, but they're both pretty much the same in my taste! Cameron knew what he was doing with "Avatar" because he did a lot of hard work on that movie, and yet some people aren't giving him that much credit. I also didn't mind the story and I thought the dialogue made sense too.
Anyway, back to Nolan, he definitely deserves an award-nomination for Best Directing because he made this movie's story a creative way to make you think! Nolan is also a hell of a lot better than Martin Scorsese! Not only did I thought Martin's directing to "Shutter Island" was boring and terrible, but he also messed up a lot on the f*cking editing and yet people are praising him for that sh*t...why? He deserves a Razzie nomination for Worst Directing I think, but luckily, Nolan's "Inception" steps in the way and kicks "Shutter Island" down to the ground!
Christopher Nolan's editing is better and is not messed up at all in this movie, and the music he picked out from Hans Zimmer was incredible! It reminded me of the same music that was used in "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight!" Nolan also put in some suspense in this movie, and that was another reason why I thought "Shutter Island" sucked. "Shutter Island" didn't have any suspense at all and it was barely a thriller or a movie at all, but "Inception" comes in and kicks its ass! I had no flaws with Nolan's directing on the film!
VISUALS: Visuals? Oh, yeah! There are visuals in this movie! There's a bunch of action, explosions, and even some dreamlike visuals in this movie! No green visuals like in "The Matrix" movies, but there's still cool visuals since the setting of this movie is set in different dream worlds that looks like it's really happening! Damn! A lot of green-screen effects!
OVERALL: This is already the best movie of the summer! But not only that, I also think it is already the best movie of 2010 so far! "Inception" has a creative story, great acting, brilliant directing, script, cool visuals, and even suspense! And because of that, this movie is a masterpiece and it might now be one of my favorite movies since I want to watch it again! This movie truly deserves award-nominations for Best Directing, Screenplay, Original Score, and Acting...even for Leo DiCaprio who I usually don't really care about that much! To those who haven't seen this movie yet, I say see it now before it leaves the big screen! If you don't, then you're missing out big time because this movie also leaves a challenge to its audience! It'll blow your mind like it did to me!
One Final Word: I also have one question to Mr. Nolan: What made him think of this kind of story and how I wonder? Could it be that he had a dream about it or something like that? Hmm...I do not know, but all I can say is that he has such a creative mind and a cool style for his movies! Oh, and one last thing to him: Bring on "Batman 3!"
