First of all, drop all pre-conceived notions that this will be like Stomp The Yard or the Step Up movies. Yes, the storyline may sound familiar, but this movie takes the dance genre to another level. I was expecting the worse from this movie. What I got was a gritty, realistic movie about a girl who wants to escape her old life and pursue her dreams.

The directing by Tanzanian-born director Ian Rashid is great. The acting, especially by Raya (played by Rutina Wesley), is top-notch for a movie of this genre. What makes this different from the other dance movies is that this film involves the audience on a personal level. Everything in this film feels genuine. There's no corny jokes or bad acting, and you can really imagine what Raya is going through.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. Be sure to check it out if you like dance movies.
