Hostel: Part II: Review By JR

Having many of the same ingredients that made "Hostel" so appealing, this apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

"Hostel: Part II" isn't as good as the original, but I felt like I got what I expected when I walked away. Sure it has the gore, nudity, those bratty little kids that want candy & money and that one god-awful moment that you can barely stand to look at while it's happening. Yep, that's the "Hostel" series in a nutshell!

Props to Eli Roth for sticking with his formula and making sure that he pushed the R-rating to the edge. He creates a seemingly safe environment for our main characters before the unthinkable terror ensues. He's good at what he does and he understands how to make a proper horror film.

I don't think this is the kind of movie that needs to be watched with a critical eye. It's a horror movie's nature to be flawed and rediculous. Few gore-fests have ever been lauded by critics and it shouldn't be expected here.

"Hostel: Part II" goes with the general formula that worked the last time and I think it's still a fun movie in it's own sick, twisted way. I recommend this film to those who enjoyed "Hostel", but especially to those who aren't expecting it to be better than the original.

Again, this film isn't perfect, but in a season where most of the high-profile sequels are just stealing our money because they can't even stick to the formula that has worked for them, "Hostel: Part II" at least gives the audience what they expect and manages to entertain in the process.
