Ok it's 2003.....Spring break I think and Disney released a movie based on the book called Holes in theaters and I didn't see but some how the movie does well at the box office and won the hearts of nearly all the critics. 4 months later The movie is released on d.v.d which then a month later the movie premiered on Starz on "SATURDAY NIGHT PREMIERE" I was like what 8 around the time it was shown on Starz and I admit 8 year old me thought this movie was stupid but the end credits song "Dig it" performed by the main teenagers of the movie was catchy too me. Now fast forward 10 years later, 17 year old me saw the movie in target for $3.00 and I brought the movie home and put it in the 360 and watched the movie. Like the movie Attack The Block, the movie put a smile on my face and made me want to slap my 8 year old self silly due to his poor movie judgement!!

The movie revolves around Shia LaBeouf's character Stanley Yelnats the 4th who like his family is cursed with bad luck after his great, great, great grandfather Stanley The 1st forgot to carry an gypsy lady up a mountain. When Stanley iv finds a famous baseball player shoes on the street, he is arrested by police who thinks he stole the shoes and is sent to a camp for 18 months which he is forced to dig 5 feet holes each day "to build character" and he is assigned to D-Tent where he meets X-ray the smart leader of D-Tent, Armpit X-ray's best friend and a guy who never takes a bath, Zig-Zag a mentally ill paranoia teen, Magnet a kid with the need to steal something and Zero a boy who never talks and believed to be stupid soon becomes Stanley's new friend. As Stanley continues his stay at camp green lake, his luck begins to turn around slowly and with the help of his new friends, Stanley might not only go on the adventure of his life and might possibly break his family's curse.

The plot/storyline is very adventurous and with the support of a mystery and flashbacks which the movie does surprisingly well. When you watch a movie like this you get a strong hint of movies like "The Goonies" and "Attack The Block" which both movies has the characters having a strong bond and when you watch this movie you get the strong sense of friendship and as well redemption which deals with the main character Stanley IV is doing (unknowingly) breaks his families curse. The flashbacks helps the movies storyline due to the flashbacks helps explains the recurring characters stories like Stanley's the 1st side story and "Kissing" Kate Barlow side story with her love interest Sam which both flashbacks explain their actions and their actions in the movie is believable.

The acting which like I explained in the plot/storyline is as much perfect due to the main teenage characters bond or brotherhood reminds me alot like "The Goonies" and "Attack The Block" and even win they fuss or even fight a little they still protect each other and help each other out which can keep them sane which these characters bond helps makes the movie better and you do begin to like these characters and their dialogue with one another. The main bond is between the two main characters Stanley/Cave-Man and Zero who the two together bring and as well the other D-Tent crew has the strongest brotherhood due to both actors having that chemistry between the two gives the two the perfect illusion of the two are brothers and the two are the movies two characters you begin to love due to their brother-like bond. Shia LaBeouf who i think was 14 at the time of this movie, this is one of his break-out role or to some people this movie was his pre-breakout role which I got to say even then he was my favorite young actor and he does play his role very perfect which his character as Peter Parker which I mean by this when he's Stanley Yelnats the Fourth he is a nice kid but his some pretty messed up sh*t happen to this character but when his character gets an alter-ego by his friends of D-Tent "CAVE-MAN" which represent Spider-Man because when he's Cave-Man he's brave and that's the point of the movie where his luck begins to change and LaBeouf does play his character the way the character was intended to be in a movie which he does well. Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, and Tim Blake Nelson who plays the movies 3 main antagonist Ms.Walker/The Warden (Weaver), Mr.Sir (Voight), and Mr.Pendawski (Nelson). These three play the three stooges but with a darker tone because when Voight who is Larry and Nelson who is curly are together their funny and enjoyable but when Weaver's character comes on she is Moe but with a deadly attitude and you do get the hint that these kids at Camp Green Lake are digging more than just punishment and "character" but something that well affect Stanley's life and luck and the three do make their character almost like The Three Stooges meets The Villains from Temple of doom.

The Score of the movie is Country and sometimes classic Russian or European music which sometimes these two would annoy me but I admit I begin to enjoy it because it's one of those scores that adds the mood to certain scenes. Especially the end credit song "Dig it" preformed D-Tent boys which is a smooth hint of Rap/Hip-Hop and Country Music.

The Comedic tone of the movie is done by the D-Tent crew either making fun of each other or talking about the crimes they committed to get to green lake and as well the Yelnats curse

So to some it all up, "Holes" is very entertaining movie because of it's mystery and brotherhood that makes the movie great and if you're a fan of movies like "The Goonies", "Attack The Block" , and "The Warriors" then you'll like this movie so DIG IT
