High Tension: Review By The Cryptkeeper

What can I say? This is one of the best slasher flicks out there. It's not exactly a slasher flick, but at the same time, it can't go under any other category really. It has reached it's way into my favorites list. And that's tough to do for a movie. Very entertaining, incredible suspense and one of the bloodiest films I've seen in a while.

The story, ok, without spoilers, and without the shocker ending, it is incredibly weak. Here it is WITHOUT SPOILERS- Marie and Alexa are friends. They go to Alexa's house for the weekend. It is an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. So one night, there is a knock at the door. It is a psychotic man who has the need to kill!!!! Ok, here it is *WITH SPOILERS*- So same thing. Marie and Alexa go to Alexa's house for the weekend, there is a mysterious knock on the door It's some freak and he kills everyone EXCEPT Alexa and Marie. He takes her in his truck, and this guy didn't even find Marie. She was hiding. But a lot of messed up events happen, and then at the end, Marie kills this killer. BUT we find out that MARIE is the killer. She is like multi-personality. I am guessing most of the events that we saw never even happened. So creepy. At first I thought the movie was lame, but then I understood that it was all in her head...

Ok, so there are french actors, since the film is foreign. I don't dare try to spell their names. They do phenomenal, from the killer, to the 2 girls that have to be scared throughout the whole film.

I give props to the actress who played Alexa because she was chained up in the back of a truck throughout the whole film.

Plus you got the murderer, who is one of the most disturbing killers you'll ever see in a movie. All these top-notch performances really add to the disturbing effect of the film. So the acting is some of he best you will find in a horror movie.

The director is Alexandre Aja. Ohhh, does he do a sickeningly brilliant job! He makes this film so disturbing, and at times hard to watch. Very creepy, just the whole premise. "It could happen to you" sort of thing. I like how he doesn't get into details he just starts the killing. He doesn't waste time on all this stuff that no one cares about. He is a straight to the point director, and I like that.

Now for visuals, you may think immediately of blood... and that's it. Actually there is way more to it than that. Unfortunately the girls they chose aren't a whole lot to look at, but the film's lighting is just incredible. Visuals I always found hard to explain, because well, they are visual, but the thing that amazes me the most about this film is the visuals. The way the film is presented and like I said, the lighting. It is a dark shadow effect that is breathtaking. Of course the blood is awesome, with it flying everywhere. Such a cool film.

Overall, an awesome cinematic experience. Very tense, taught, and well thought out. You can tell the film was not rushed, and the shocker ending may make you hate the film at first (like I did at first) but after you sit on it for a while, you'll love it. Guaranteed.
