The film starts out with two men fishing, who run into some sort of creature that brutally rips out their internal organs. Yeah, it's a pretty friggin' awesome way to start a movie! We then meet Ben and Marcus who are in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Ben is tired of booze and boobs because of the relationship he just got out of. He decides to go on a swamp tour with Marcus. He meets up with an array of weird characters, and a potential love interest.
Of course they get lost in the woods and end up meeting Victor Crowley who is a disfigured hulk of a man that kills anyone he sees in his woods (he's also the creature that killed the two men in the opening). His origin story really takes the cakes because it's done in such a traditional horror film fashion. But the methods that Victor uses for killing is just disgustingly awesome! My personal favorite is when he cuts a man in half like you would cut a sandwich into triangles.
That's where I stop talking about the movie. The story, directing, and acting are all pretty good but it's the visuals that just blow you away. You couldn't believe that some weirdo would think of all these gruesome deaths. On one final note, the music is very haunting, and should join the ranks of the Exorcist and Halloween themes in the pantheon of great horror film themes.
Overall, not as good as Behind the Mask or 30 Days of Night naming other 07' horror films, but definitely a horror flick that stands out among all the crappy torture porn flicks you see now a day.
Grade: 88% B+ (niteowl's final verdict)

Good review, but did not like this film at all. I will say however it did have good special effects.
