Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort's defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn't counted on Romilda Vane's chocolates! And then there's Hermione, simpering with jealously but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again. More »

  3. Nautical

Fantastic film. However, the biggest disappointment was the battle between Harry and Snape at the end. In the book it was epic but man the director really dropped the ball with that one.

Okay, this is a two-part review so bear with me.
First - adaptation of original work - RUBBISH! As an adaptation of the original book this is lousy. No depth to characters or their stories. Basically a continuation of the rot that set in with Goblet of Fire - half the story missing in the interests of the length of the film. Really didn't like it from that point of view.

HOWEVER, second - originality of screenplay - intriguingly good. From the get-go using present-day settings for the attack at the start, through to the final discussion at the top of the Astronomy Tower, I thought that it was a clever play on the originals set-ups. Having been 'spoilt' by fanfics that may have been screenplays, I'll admit that I was wary of this film first time of viewing. Second time around, I watched it for what it was, not what it could have been, and enjoyed it. You can see the differences in the screenplay and the book (one written by a male, the other by a female), but it did have it's moments - like Harry and Ginny at the Burrow during Christmas, and Ron and Hermione throughout.

All in all, watch it for what it is and you'll probably enjoy it. Watch it for what it could have been, and forget it.
