Harold: Review By Brokaw

There are some very funny scenes however at the heart of the story is a sad little boy wonderfully portrayed by Spencer Breslin.

Spencer Breslin stars as Harold, a thirteen-year-old boy who is suffering with male patterned baldness. The people in his hometown have accepted his situation and he is revered and loved. But when his mother (Ally Sheedy) uproots the family and moves them to another town, Harold sees trouble coming.

He is now the new kid in school, and to make matters worse, he is the bald new kid. He also has many other quirks, which put him in the "geek" category. The other geeks love having Harold because he takes the heat off of them. Harold's only friends are his classmate (Nikki Blonsky) and the school's janitor (Cuba Gooding, Jr.)

Everyone in his new school has a go-cart and they race them after school. All Harold wants for his birthday is a go cart. But his mother gets him a rascal - you know those little contraptions made for seniors. After all, she spent all her extra money on Harold's sister's cheerleading uniform, so was lucky to even get the used rascal.

Harold is used by the older kids who have him buy beer for them. He looks like a man in his 40s or 50s, so this kid never gets carded. But if that is the only way he can gain acceptance, on any level, that is what he must do. This poor kid longs to be liked and accepted.

This is a sad story with a happy ending. There are some very funny instances however at the heart of the story is a sad little boy wonderfully portrayed by Spencer Breslin.
