I must say first off, there are three things that make a Halloween film; The Characters, the music, and the mask of Michael Myers. This had all three, so I do consider it a Halloween Movie.

I went into this movie with low expectations, thinking that Rob Zombie's decisions were a bad idea. I watched the movie, and left saying . . . "Amazing!"

Rob Zombie changed things up for the better. I cared more about the characters this time around. Brad Dourif's character was more developed this time, with real deep emotions. The story dared to go further into the characters than any other Halloween movie (besides the original). I say congrats Rob Zombie.

Only two things disappointed me; Changing Michael's knife, and killing off Dr. Loomis at the end. I wasn't too sure about that. Overall, I gave this movie 4 stars. It wasn't as good as Zombie's first, but it stands out as a new Halloween.

With the whole music and mask thing, I thought Zombie was gonna take those out completely, but Rob Zombie did keep it in to a certain extent, and that made me happy.

Only one outta your "3 things" was really in the movie: the characters.

The Halloween musical score was pretty much absent until the end credits and the mask didn't play a large part. In fact, we never get a good look at it until the end when Laurie puts it on.

But I agree about caring more about the characters this time around, and that's why I think this was better than the last film.

According to John Carpenter, he said the three things a horror movie needs to be a success is 1) a good story, 2) a good story, and 3) a good story. He said that on "A Cut Above The Rest" on Disc-2 of the "H25 Anniversary Edition" DVD.

For me, the 3 things a horror movie needs to succeed is 1) a simple story, 2) a musical score that marries the film, and 3) a scary monster whose scare factors won't be spoiled if shown before the climax (like all the older horror flicks not revealing the monster until the end--as Michael Myers always maintains a chill factor throughout no matter how many times we've seen him).

But yeah, we've all got our 3 favorites.

Yes. Some people can go on and add to what they think a Halloween movie is, but for me it needs these three things.

you're forgetting the 4th and most important thing which should be #1: a simple story.
