Halloween II: Review By The CryptKeeper
In the style of 80's slasher flicks, with those nice conveniences for the killer to kill... Or those coulda been plot holes.

The acting is ok...some co-stars were questionable, but all the main characters are good. Scout Taylor-Compton is great as Laurie. While this new Laurie is completely different than Jamie Lee Curtis' original Laurie, and a bit annoying at times, she does an EXCELENT job at screaming her ass off the whole movie. She actually looks scared, and has great emotion in her eyes. Then they bring back Danielle Harris. She too is good at being scared. Brad Dourif also returns.
I always loved Rob Zombie's style, with House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, and his first Halloween. He makes his movies so completely extreme, but now he seems to be slacking a bit. This one lacked a bit of impact the first had. Somes scenes had some lame points, and he shouldn't have let that into his movie.
But basically I'm writing this review to say my complaints, and also why I still like it. So...
***contains spoilers but nothing big, and doesn't ruin the ending***
Ok, people, it's just a slasher. Quit over-analyzing it. It is what it is...a guy killing people. Sure, it does have some problems but you people who are bitching about the weak story or acting or bad writing (AKA those little things that are extremely unlikely to happen and are convenient for Michael to kill) should just chill. It's a slasher. This usually equals a weak plot, average acting, and yes, even plot holes. Sure, Zombie's previous Halloween film didn't have these, but all the other Halloween flicks sure seemed to. I don't hear people complaining about them.
I was a little disappointed with some of the different directions that Zombie took that were not in the first, but if you get over it and can accept that, you should like this movie.
By the way, for you parents, "crude sexual content" is wrong. Sex- yes, crude- no.

this is true, NewKill. I mean, theres been a few good horror movies, but theyre all by unknowns. for fanous ones, Zombie, is really the best one. i mean, i liked Eli Roth's Hostel flicks, but Cabin Fever really sucked. i doubt Barker is making a comeback. i mean, the guy did one movie that didnt even hit big theaters. not that great of a way so stage a comeback. WesCraven should come back, he was awesome. Carpenter... neverreally liked him to begin with. Hallownne was good but the rest of his movies seem to bore me, IMO.
whatever, Raven.

Lol, I think Zombie is actually the only horror director we really have anymore. I stopped counting Eli Roth anymore. I don't what the guy is doing. Wes Craven and Carpenter have vanished. Well, there's still Clive Barker with Meat Train.

this is true, even without the Halloween name, its still a flawed film. just without the Halloween name, its something wed end up seeing on the DVD shelf one day, and not a theater release.
i too, like Zombie. his vision of horror is very... horrific. i think he is one of the best horror directors to date. but he does need some help with a story for one of his s. once he starts, he'll be fine.

I'm not sure if i would have liked it better without the Halloween name, but I wouldn't hate as much as do. But I am still a fan of Zombie. He has great potential to be a good director. I just want to see this guy do his own thing instead of making films from already existing franchises and I know Devils Rejects and House of Corspes was new, but the idea of that wasn't really new. It was almost like a Texas Chainsaw Massacre type of feeling.

haha. thanks, man. i do agree. he seems to be a regular old killer now, instead of Michael. i was kinda disappointed that Michael seemed to not be suspensful. he just walkes up to people and stabbs them. i think people would have liked this better had it not had the Halloween name on it.

Man, you write some great review, Crypt. Although, i didn't like this film at all. I want the old Myers back, when he used to be frightening and scary. Now, he's just like a regular old Jason, not that i have any problems with Jason. And pay no attention to that *sshole Delgren, he just jealous. He even got pissed at me and started coping my profile to have people thinking he's me.
