The story-the monster comes to New York City and the military try their best to stop him. What is so special about this? There is nothing new to this "Godzilla" movie. In practically all of the Godzilla movies made in Japan are the same exact story and yet even when it is adapted, it does not even give the story a twist or even a better path to walk on. The screenplay was made by Roland Emmerich and his assistant Dean Devlin who did a horrible job in bringing this monster back to life and it dramatically made the long lasting franchise receive an epic blow.
The acting-this is where I got the most headaches from this movie. Matthew Broderick as Niko Tatopoulos does a horrible job in working with whatever was given to his character. He doesn't provide anything to make his character interesting or even worthy of a main role. The rest of the cast does the exact same thing, no strong conveyance of their characters, no development throughout the film. Terrible job by cast. When they try to give something to the audience, they never succeed and soon enough you can just forget about the acting and think about the visuals.
The directing-my god did Roland Emmerich do terrible in this movie. He displeased millions of people across the world, but he also displeased the millions of Godzilla fans as well. His vision of Godzilla failed terribly and it helped to solidify his place in hollywood as a failing director. No wonder no a days when one of his films, for example, 2012 is coming out-his decent films "independence day" and "the day after tomorrow" are mentioned but never his other works.
The visuals-the visuals are horrible as well. The cgi looks completely unrealistic and it makes you feel as if you were in a video game. The cinematography-terrible-I could not see any symbolism in any of the shots. All the cinematographer tried to "glorify" was the devastation and Godzilla's computer generated body. Absolutely terrible.
Overall-skip this movie. One of the worst films I had ever seen and it will make you feel as if you had lost brain cells if you do watch it.

Meh. This wasn't all that bad for me. I'm not a huge Godzilla fan so there's was nothing offensively bad in this movie. Just a typical Emmerich movie.

Awww, and I'm a fan of the franchise. Oh well, opinions. But remember, Dragonball Evolution is the worst adaptation.
