G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra: Review By bigtiev
This movie was a travesty a sham and a mockery of everything that is and was good about GI Joe. Making it a Traveshamockery.

Now for the BAD and there was a ton of it.
I am not a huge fan of CGI, I think that if used sparingly and done well it can add to the movie. That being said the CGI in this movie was terrible. The script of this movie was audacious. I can understand wanting to create your own "thing" but to not do any research about any of the characters was a complete mistake. I understand that this is supposed to be the typical summer action movie but this is even more so a Fanboy movie. The ground work and basal story line(s) was already laid out starting with the character file cards found on the back of every action figure. Stories that were followed by the cartoon as well as the original Marvel Comics publication of GI Joe: A real American Hero and continued years later with Devils Due's publication and IDW comics current relaunch/reimagining of GI Joe. Not only did the makers of this picture not do character research to make sure they got things right, they completely ignored everything and ruined every character. That is one of the greatest things about GI Joe is the cast of characters and the interlocking story lines that has been created. If at this time you are intrigued about the story(s) that I speak of go buy the trade paperbacks at your local comic book store and enjoy.
Costumes I did not care so much about I can understand not giving the bright colors that we are used to. So I was down with giving the X-Men treatment to the Joes I even thought Snake-Eyes was spot on until I saw the movie and noticed that they gave is mask lips, this goes down as being as bad as nipples on a bat suit. Why would you give a character that cannot speak a mask with lips on it. I would also like to know what was the deal with the stupid accelerator suits. Not one action figure has had an accelerator suit, not once in the cartoon was an accelerator suit used, nor had one ever appeared in any of the comic books.
The fight scenes were also horrendous. I was really looking forward to the exchanges between Snake-Eyes and Stormshadow but their fights just seemed overly choreographed and a bit contrived. They just did not look as cool as they could have.
Stephen Sommers and the rest of the creative crew of absolutely RUINED what could have been a great franchise of movies. He (Sommers) should never be allowed to make movies ever again.

"I understand that this is supposed to be the typical summer action movie but this is even more so a Fanboy movie". What? Fanboy movie?? I don't think so. You yourself state that they ruined every character.. so how could it be a Fanboy movie if they changed everything that the fans want to see?
And your nuts to say the fight scenes were horrendous. The clashes between Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes were worth the price of admission alone.
Sounds like YOU'RE the fanboy who was disappointed they "ruined" your childhood GI Joe memories. I can't disagree with you more. Its not the greatest movie of the year... or the summer for that matter.... but its not a one star movie.
